At long last I have some inside information...my NBA friend who I can't name gave me all the details on this conspiracy.
It's just as many suspected: the NBA wanted the Lakers to have a superstar so they arranged for them to get Luka in exchange
for the top draft pick. But it almost fell apart when that do gooder Pops was going to reveal the conspiracy. In the end Pops got a lobotomy which was called a stroke and the Spurs got the 2nd pick as a reward for saving the situation. None of it would have ever worked if all the other billionaire owners hadn't been completely selfless; none cared about their own personal glory or the value of their franchises. They were all happy to rig things against themselves for the good of the league.
Heh I don't know what to make of this. You're on the money in regards to exactly what happened (aside from the Pop stuff), but it seems youre thinking its some conspiracy.
The owners of these organizations don't neccesarily care if their teams win or lose, they care about making money. A very real argument can be made that moving Luka to the Lakers helps the ENTIRE NBA.. which has been struggling with viewership for several years.. and in exchange, Dallas was given the 1st pick for their trouble.
I mean, if this didnt happen like 5 other times in lottery history, then sure. But even ESPN radio is laughing how rigged it is. They still refuse to show this thing on the up and up, parts of it are always hidden so we never REALLY know who won the lottery. The funny part is, I don't think the owners, nor Adam Silver even give a ****. Because in the end, people still watch.. so what does it matter if they move some pieces around behind the scenes to better the product? Do I like it? Of course not. Will I or you stop watching? Nope.
The sooner you realize that sports are about generating profit, instead of determining which team is the best, the better. This isn't some city by city, franchise by franchise competition.. its a business.
