Somewhere, someone is going to be screwed and ticked off. This will happen after the NCHSAA gets through its seeding processing using something called the MaxPreps Adjusted Ranking. I'm predicting it here and now, it's going to cost someone a home game who should, under any other circumstance have one.
I was comparing the MaxPreps rankings with the adjustable ranking and could only ask myself the question, "are you kidding me?".
Let's start in 4A. In the regular Maxpreps Rankings I noticed some things that stuck out to me particularly. First of all you have South Central ranked 18th, with a record of with a record of 7-0. But Lo and behold, under the adjusted rankings they jump up to what? Believe it or not, South Central is ranked at fourth! Fourth??? Yes, fourth. Take a look in the MaxPreps rankings at all the teams they jumped over.
Now we have Enloe. MaxPreps ranks them at 31st with a record of 8-0. But hold your horses. The adjusted rankings has them at..ahem ahem...11th. Really? 11th?
Let's take a look at some of the higher rated teams in 4A. We have Mallard Creek 1st, Wake Forest 2nd, Vance 3rd , and Richmond 4th. Not the adjusted rankings. The adjusted rankings has Wake Forest 1st, Richmond 2nd, Mallard Creek 3rd, South Central 4th and Vance 5th. These were just the examples that stuck out to me, without going into this in more depth.
It's just as good in 3A. The regular rankings have Catholic 1st, Havelock 2nd, Northwest Cabarrus 3rd, Huss 4th,, Weddington 5th,then Jacksonville 6th, Rocky Mount 7th, Cleveland 8th and Watauga 9t.
Not the adjusted rankings. Those have Huss 1st, Northwest Cabarrus 2nd, Rocky Mount 3rd and guess what? Catholic 4th and Havelock 5th. Really??? Catholic and Havelock in 4th and 5th. Havelock hasn't been anywhere near 5th in years!!!! Then we have Jacksonville 6th and Watauga 7th, Erwin 8th and Weddington 9th. In the regular rankings Erwin is 26th!!!
Pardon my language, but depending on admins, region and these adjusted rankings, I smell someone getting screwed on the horizon.
