Completely irrelevant, but I used to work with that girl while I was in school. Because of that I had the opportunity to mean Ian a few times. He was a pretty nice guy.

But I'd have to assume beat writer for one of the big 3 is among the safest spots there. Unless a NEDJ writer were encouraged to become a syndicate writer or something. Bah, what do I know about newspaper biz.

Jackson State/SWAC in the "Big 3," you're wrong. The CL does not have a USM beat writer - they use the Hattiesburg American's now.

Patrick Magee of the American got the scoop on the Fedora hiring ahead of the Clarion-Ledger's Tim Doherty. I think Magee was paying attention to flightaware.com.

The American is just a satellite of the C-L nowadays. They cut nearly all of the management in Hattiesburg last year.

Edited to say- there's some sheepish ****-for-brains USM fans who recently tried to get Patrick Magee fired as USM's beat writer. The idiots don't realize that if they get rid of him, they won't hire another. It'll be whatever swinging dick they can find to send over to cover the game.</p>
