One could make a solid argument that any team in the field of 12 that does not have a realistic chance of winning the national championship in playing in an exhibition game.

It's obvious with JMU and Tulane and honestly it's obvious for 6 more teams as well. There's only 2-4 teams each year that have an actual realistic chance to win it all.

Worst rated QB in the conference, and he's "one of the better players" . Says a lot about player development, recruiting, talent judgement, and other such duties Lebby is getting $4+ Million to do

I am not a Shapen homer by any means. I think KT should have gotten more playing time all year (not saying he should've started), especially against weaker opponents.
But,... I also know that QB rating isn't just a reflection of Shapen.
Also, KT has the mobility to escape some of the pressure but will be at high risk for injuries if he is forced to run for his life constantly.

He talked sh*t to the people that paid his salary. Multiple times. Thats why people do not like him. This should not be a surprise

I have on good authority that Shapen didn’t not handle the news well when Leb told him he wouldn’t start in the Egg Bowl. He got his s*** moved out quickly and did not participate in Senior Day.
Hard to say who is the blame when Leb kept reassuring everyone that Shapen was the guy even in the Arky game. But pressure to play Taylor ultimately won out.

I'm not surprised yall want him to suit up just so you can watch his every move during the game and his social media to complain about him more. No surprised at all.
I want him to suit up in case the starter gets injured or his helmet comes off and we need him to come in for a play or 2. He got paid to be here and just quit. It’s on par for his attitude. Someone being ok with someone we paid 7 figures to just quitting before the bowl game is not normal behavior. Why would you be ok with that? We are literally paying him and he just quit

Oh my bad, sorry for the "disdain" . So I should be happy he took a ton of NIL money over 2 seasons, won 1 damn conference game then bailed on his teammates. Should Taylor go down in the game or during practice, get the flu, whatever, that leaves us with a backup that went 2-4 for 20yds on the season and also took a bunch of NIL money that we got nothing for either. Damn right I want Shapen standing there on the sidelines earning his damn keep and holding a clipboard. He's a paid employee, not a volunteer and he hasn't done much to earn his keep so yeah he needs to be standing there
If you watched our games the last 2 years and thought that Shapen was the major reason that we lost then you are one dumb 17-er

Yeah, like our loyal QB that has left to supposedly get ready for The Combine and Pro Days, even though he had (according to ESPN stats) the lowest QB rating in the SEC of all starters.......
I really feel bad for Shapen. He has a great throwing arm and put the ball on target with throws I've never seen from a QB at State, but had a dismal offensive line with horrible play calling to boot. Poor guy is injury prone yet Lebby wants to run him up the middle over and over against SEC lineman. Why did Lebby want his style of play to begin? Make it make sense.

Almost. They still count. But I do agree they should probably just make them postseason exhibitions for any team that wants to play in one.
Are they not that already? If we ran out of 5 win teams, do NCAa rules prohibit 4 win teams from participating?

I feel bad for Shapen, and originally did not blame him for not suiting up for the bowl game, but after thinking more about the NIL aspect, I'm a little pissed. We have fans that gave him money that are making the trip to Charlotte. I hope we have enough teeth in our NIL deals that it is somewhat painful to opt out, whether because of hurt feelings, avoiding injury for draft status, or to transfer. I'm sure the market won't let them put 25% of an NIL deal contingent on finishing out the post season, but 10% or maybe even 15% seems like it would be doable? That would at least make it a little more painful than opting out for a game in the regular season.

Big fan of Out of Left Field and have listened to all of them for the past several years. I've been amazed at how well Charlie has been able to "play dumb" and avoid any details when the subject of NIL has come up. If anybody knows, he certainly does.
Bowl games, opt outs and NIL came up and was surprised that Charlie gave a slight mm-hmm to what is essentially your question. No idea of the entire context/details and certainly would never use it as a "Charlie said" but just surprised he responded. So "maybe so", but like about everything with NIL, no idea what the full picture is.
Starts about the 35:30 mark if you're interested. Certainly could have mis-interpreted his "comment"

There is no way we were paying Shapen a 7 figure NIL deal! No way!

Dear God please tell me we did not give Shapen a 7 figure deal.

So any who....do we have any real opt outs or not? Players that we need to play.
