wonder if he just got tired of MBK and needs a change os scenery. Deep run would be a great fit for him.

Re: Coach Manuel at Matoaca

I'm surprised many coaches last as long as they do. Crazy tough job in high school. Administration on you about stupid stuff all the time. Fans that have no clue criticizing the job you do while teaching is what you're primarily paid for. I've dealt with a lot of kids over my career in education and no one...and I mean not a one of the kids, loved the game more than Troy Taylor. I hope everything goes just the way he wants in the future.

Don't forget parents who think they know more about coaching their children than the coaches do.

I'm surprised Taylor lasted this long since 2009.

Taylor came to Amelia in 2008 and put football spirit back into the program. Even though he was there only one year, you saw an immediate change from the dismal seasons prior. Good coaches are hard to come by, especially at the single A level. Best of luck to him and family.

Re: Coach Manuel at Matoaca

Danny raises a good point. I stopped going to MBK games this year because parents were brutal in the stands. It's one thing if they had a clue. But, the pure idiocy they would be spewing that was linked to very personal attacks was just too much. Fans always complain, and they are always loud. It was way over the top the last couple of years, and the things they were saying just exposed pure ignorance about the game.

There's a part to coaching at the high school level that I think separates the good technical coaches from the great coaches. What made Coach Taylor great was his off the field work. The MBK strength and conditioning program was far ahead of others for years. More importantly, Coach Taylor's tireless work in trying to place kids at the next level has been under appreciated by many. If any kid playing ball wanted to play at the next level, Coach Taylor put everything into it, be it D1, D2 or D3. I can think of a number of kids who are succeeding because Coach Taylor worked to get them into a D3 school. They are playing football and, even though they aren't under scholarship, it's a life changing experience. These efforts date back to his days as an assistant. Of course, there are also the kids that he was successful in placing into scholarship situations. He will be missed.

Re: Coach Manuel at Matoaca

Coach Taylor is one of the hardest working coaches I have ever met. He is extremely passionate. I first met him when he was young man running the weight room during his first stint at Meadowbrook - his passion and energy for his job was truly amazing. That guy can coach and year in and year it he is playing one of the toughest schedules in the state. Sorry to see you go - hope you pick it up again sometime.

Most fans are clueless, have become more vocal over the years and are probably driving away more and more coaches. You aren't going to see many high school head coaches stick to it over the long haul anymore b/c of parents and the fact that it has become a year long job that now includes practice and the weight room. I don't know why Taylor is resigning but I do know he worked his tail off for those kids and the majority of the kids (if not all) loved him for it. Good luck coach Taylor.
