he cant rebound from the 4 spot, not sure why you think he can rebound from the 5. we have a lot of average to below average guys who were sort of good against lesser competition. some will adjust and be ok, some wont adjust and not really be playable.

in an exhibition game that were told by the pumpers here doesnt matter.....mcbide plays just 12min, hawthorne just 7min, frank just 5min. these guys should be getting clock to get more comfortable out there. if pope isnt going to play them in an exhiibition....why they hell did he spread out 25M in NIL to 10, 11 guys? just go after 3 or 4 big fish if you are going to play just 6 or 7 dudes.

What might have been, had Pope retained Mark Mitchell! It’s still early, but I believe McBride is slightly out of his league in the SEC/ main non-conference slate. But, he’s one of two that UK has, so it’s sink or swim at the 4. Another reason why Moreno needs to step up his physicality big time!

When Kam returns, I’d almost feel better with Milan at the 4, but as with Mason Williams taking Diallo’s minutes, it’s probably never happening.

That wasn’t on pope. That’s on sankey.

Also, Ousmanes defense at the 4 is going to help us a ton. He’s shown to be a very good defender even onto small guards. Quick feet and moves laterally really well. If he starts hitting his shot then he will be a great 4 man.

I’d trust Ousmane at the 5 more than McBride tbh
yup.....right now i'd sub ndiaye early, then put him back in for moreno. frank is just going to kill your offense. pope needs to use the final exhibition game to see what he has in hawthrone and mcbide. one of those 2 guys will need to come in and play the back up PF. if its hawthrone.....noah might actually get minutes at the SF. which should tell you about this roster.

with a healthy kam i'd like to see mason, kam, milan, ndiaye, and moreno start. in theory you have 3 guys on that you can space the floor. run pick and roll with mason/milan and moreno.....get moreno isolated inside, or find the shooter. kam will give as good if not better 3 point shooting than wilkins, bigger and should help in rebounding/defense.

Kam, Mason Williams, Trent if he gets healthy. N'Diaye missed a few last night but he has a nice stroke, he just needs better shot selection

I've been worried about N'Diaye offensively. On his Italian team he was a high volume 30% 3-pt shooter. He's almost 7 feet tall and he takes over half his shots from three despite missing most of them. Bad shot selection from three isn't a minor nitpick, it's his main offensive identity. He has a lot of upside and should give us rebounding and defense but he needs to completely rework his offensive game.

But yeah Kam and Morton being out hurts us in this regard, they would be shooters for us. McBride did shoot a very good percentage last year, he may have limitations but he should be a solid catch-and-shoot threat.

Hawthorne will not play the 4. That’s just not even a possibility. McBride is fine in spot minutes. Ousmane will play 30 mins and is going to win us some games with his defense. Also his shot will fall. Too good of form not to. Milan would slide to the 4 before Hawthorne ever even gets that thought. Franck plays his role. Come in bang around and get out. Remember he hasn’t played all summer so he’s still getting off the rust.

So take off our best ball screen ball handler and most explosive guard in Wilkins. Got it. Great idea.

Milan missed most of his threes last season. Getting NDaiye to feel comfortable and take good shots and trust his teammates when the shot is not there is part of this exercise. He runs the floor so damn well for a 6-11 man and has great coordination. If he can keep improving moving his feet and being lateral on defense, the guy could be a star.

Milam has improved his three-point shooting throughout his career. He averaged 37.7% his first two (2) years, before exploding to a 48.7% clip last year. There is no question that he is a premier shooter. He will draw SIGNIFICANT defensive attention this year. It will be interesting to see how well he shoots this year, with both that defensive pressure and the implied pressure that his team's success will depend on him shooting well.
I hope he plays 30+ minutes a game and shoots at least ten (10) threes a game. I suspect he will shoot somewhere between 40%-45%, but hope for something incredible, of course. He is capable of really going off for the entire season !! He compares very favorably with Brea and Lamb, imho.

It’s the 2nd exhibition game. They will get more clock vs UCF I bet.
This is practice and they need more time. It will happen.

I’d like to see some 3 guard sets and I do think McBride could play the 5 if needed.

these guys are progressing. Zoom will be ok, McBride and Hawthorne will be needed. It will happen.

All in all, I think we played reasonably well against a good TT team.

Go Cats!!!

It's early and only two (2) exhibition games, but here are the rebounding stats for N'Diaye and McBride:

N'Diaye: 51 minutes, 3 Off, 6 Def = 9 Total Rebounds, 15 points on 18 FGA
McBride: 29 minutes, 2 Off, 6, Def = 8 Total Rebounds, 9 points on 9 FGA

I agree he could be a star but it won’t be from being a volume three point shooter.

I have never heard an argument suggesting he is not a premier shooter. You proved my point that he missed most of his threes.

After the first 2 exhibitions, I am okay with McBride NEVER inbounding the ball again.

Perhaps poorly, I was trying to suggest that N'Diaye might improve his shooting over time, as Momcilovic has done. Hopefully, he can and will.

I feel the same way. Use the exhibition to try different lineups against unknown competitors.
I know some people think it matters to win these games but it is better to see what works and what doesn’t.

Moreno needs to play 30+ minutes a night. Rest to Big Frank
IMO 30 is way too high. He can’t move, can’t jump, can’t defend. Can’t contend for rebounds, and unless it’s right at him, the can’t go after one because he’s too un-athletic. Now his offense is improving and I love the kid, but if he’s at 30 mins then we are in trouble.
