I wonder where Riley goes from here. I am guessing we will have a name announced sometime in the near future so they have some time before Spring practice to get acclimated to things.

Well, that leaves another 49 candidates on the list.

I would have been OK with Angus, but we better keep swinging for the fences with this hire. Don't want to be a Settler.

Dang, knew he would be tough to pull from the west coast. I bet Mora bumped his salary quite a bit. I'm not too worried, I trust Riley on this.

I'm glad on this one, although I hope Mike makes his decision soon. I need something to talk about until spring ball.

" Sources have indicated that UCLA coach Jim Mora stepped in and stepped up, providing McClure a significant raise and a two-year extension on his contract. "

Who are the othe candidates? If this one was so public and I am not really hearing of any others I'm finding it hard to believe there are other big fish were in on.

Our wide receivers coach came out of nowhere, I believe. It seems with Riley that most things are done under the radar. Maybe we should get used to expecting the unexpected?

Riley has this on lockdown, I bet we have an answer soon (next week), but I don't think staff changes with him in charge are going to have many leaks.

^^^This^^^ I feel like Riley wasn't pursuing Angus as hard as we were led to believe. This stinks of an agent leaking his clients name to get him a pay raise. Even if Riley enquired about his level of interest, my guess would be that he decided to go in another direction as soon as his name leaked. Just my gut feeling with the way Riley likes to keep things close to the vest.

A little confused by some of the posts in this thread curious where MR goes from here. Outside of speculation, there was never an indication McClure was at or near the top of Riley's list.

This true. We did not know where McClure ranked. We know that there was conversation, but there was speculation that others were contacted as well.

I have been impressed how tight-lipped the athletic department has been over the last year. It seems like very few rumors with traction come out.

I haven't been paying attention to this so forgive my ignorance, but why is this guy such a great candidate? Didn't we just run all over UCLA's d-line in the bowl game?

Bunch of injuries to their DL. Their defensive scheme is slated towards pass coverage. And he's a Top 20 in the country type recruiter. Doesn't matter anymore.

I agree with many here in that I think the whole McClure talk was probably from himself in order to get a raise.

I talked to my UCLA friends at the gym this morning, as I do every Saturday. Boy, are they pi$$ed. Not only didn't Nebraska take McClure, but Mora gave him a raise. One guy said he "used to have respect for Nebraska", but he doesn't anymore since we wanted to hire a guy who we "put 300 yards on". This guy lives and dies UCLA football and did a run down on the DT McClure recruits and claimed the 5-star washed out and all but one 4-star washed out, the rest were 3-stars, he said McClure always got "projects" who were undersized.

Thanks for the UCLA update... According to them we will be finding someone better.

Who's to say if he was Riley's #1 choice but he might have been since McClure received a supposedly raise that he might not have received if he wasn't up for the hire.

There has been ZERO confirmation that we offered or were really even interested in McClure. The only thing confirmed was that there was contact most likely by McClure's agent reaching out to NU. I would think though that McClure's name was most likely in that initial 50+ names that Riley talked about.

Every time a public candidate "decides to stay" and pulls their name out of contention, I think that someone has done them a favor in allowing them to save face a few days before the eventual hire is announced.

My hunch is that McClure was not Riley's top choice.

With Riley every assistant coach search has been very quiet with no leaks. I think McClure's name became public because he wanted it to, so he could get a raise from UCLA.

Well there was at least interest. Banker talked to him last week about the job and he was scheduled to speak with Riley over the phone.
