My grandfather was a coal miner in to his 60's, (remember him coming in regularly with coal dust all over him). I had several uncles who worked in the mines, but all that being said, West Virginia can not continue to be reliant on the coal industry. Anything done to continue to prop up the coal industry in this state only delays the inevitable. At some point in time West Virginia needs to figure out other industries that can benefit or work for the state. If not West Virginia will be in the same position 50 years from now as it is today. The truth hurts but sometimes reality sucks. My dad cries every time he hears country roads specifically because of the "miners lady" phrase because he thinks of my mom (who died in 2016). Her dad was a miner and that connection resonates. Coal miners have been very close to me but I'm also a realist and appeasing the mining industry isn't going to help West Virginia in the long run.

WV should have legalized weed 6 months before Colorado. Problem solved.

Govt picking winners is the problem. Running out of coal is WV fault. Having regualations against the entire fossil fuel industry that stops 2 mill barrels a day of oil production and fracking of natural gas that made us have one the best economic periods ever should be criminalized. Put those fvckers in jail that did this.

…Schumer’s demands, did we just get into the SEC? 😜
Honestly, if Joe wasn’t leveraging his vote as one of a number of contingencies on saving WVU’s football future, he needs dick punched. There are plenty of other more ridiculous things Senators have leveraged for their vote.

Why am I concerned that Manchin just went against what 75%+ of all WV'ians wanted yet will probably still get re-elected? Never understood WV politics unless thru the prism of corruption.

Like many other industries that were located in WV, they have either been incorporated with another company or have otherwise left. Growing up in Charleston I remember Kelly Axe Factory, Libbey Owens Ford Glass Co, Union Carbide, Westvaco, The Rubber plant, Willys Jeep, A&P Grocery, and more. They have all gone by the wayside, as has the Coal and Natural Gas Treasure Chest.

I remember both Union Carbide, had an uncle work there, and Westvaco both. I haven't heard any of those in a long time.

Manchin pisses off both the far left, communist, AOC led wing of his party and the far right, neofascist, Trump wing of the GOP.

So I rather enjoy him just for the lulz he brings by figuring out how to enrage all of the crazies simultaneously. I hope he stays in the Senate forever.

The far left was very happy with him today. At least based on their comments. That should be enough to tell him he missed up.

Emperor Joe makes them take turns. Just when you think he's with you...

Ha ha ha. Cry, extremists, at your moderate overlord.

Then next week he'll be back at pissing AOC off.
