pine forest is better than many might believe - defensively they are pretty good. I know it's Lumberton but to keep that kid they have at qb off the boards is something to build on.

I think you are right. PF slim win over PS isn't impressive but I think PS is much improved. Hoggard hasn't played great on the road under Underwood but this will be best team PF has faced so far this season. Will probably be a tight one.

If hoggard gets a solid defensive effort, they win by 2tds.
New Hanover has a shot....just kidding, havelock.
Was Laneys win last week a surprise and did Rose lose a lot of talent? They still lose this week, Lee county.
Fairmont seems out of sync but I still think they have enough to beat Ashley.
West Brunswick has Bubba, North Myrtle will have 3or 4 Bubbas, NMB.
South Brunswick plays a Pender team who I've been told couldn't beat their own JV, SB.
Topsail-Dixon..these teams go at each other. Should be tight, Topsail.

I heard the Topsail game last week was a very weird game. The kind that comes around every 10-15 years.

I wasn't at the Laney game but they ran it 52 time for 400. Rose still has athletes but it appears Laney beat them on both lines and wore them down. Rose didn't score in the second half. Big win for the Bucs.

Yes the topsail-Pender game was weird, the offenses for both teams were shaky and the scoring came from int returns, ko returns, punt returns. Topsail had their starting RB DJ Montano quit the team because he's just not a football player. But it opened the door in my opinion to a better more committed player who has 10 times more potential.

Hoggard @ Pine Forest -
Hoggard got a huge win last week against a good 71st. Vikings defense played better, but still gave up a lot on ground and on the scoreboard. Offense appears to be clicking. Pine Forest is tough and I feel a lot of people are overlooking them. This will be close, but the Vikings win it.
New Hanover @ Havelock -
This game wasn't close last year and don't expect much difference this year. New Hanover is trying to figure things out not only on offense, but defense too. New Hanover's defense was suppose to be strong this year, but they look shaky the first couple weeks. Wiz Vaughn is good ... They need someone else to step on O. Havelock rolled over New Bern and rolls this week
Lee Co. @ Laney -
Laney has shown improvement on both sides of the ball from a year ago and the personal changes seem to be working. Great win last week against Rose and another tough battle this week. Lee is 2-0 with a big win over Greensboro Smith last week. Laney needs a win to prove that they are for real this year .... Lee County comes out on top.
Fairmont @ Ashley -
Ashley is still an unknown after last week's win over Swansboro. I think myself, hotter & port city could beat them, but it was an impressive win. Fairmont is an offensive power, but the other side of the ball is terrible giving up close to 100 points in the first two weeks. Fairmont won this game last year ... It won't happen this year. Ashley comes away with the victory.
West Brunswick @ N. Myrtle Beach -
I don't know a lot about North Myrtle Beach except they are 2-0. West Brunswick beat an improving South Columbus team last week. McCray is the real deal and has West Brunswick headed in the right direction. Pure guess on this, but I like McCray and the Trojans in this one.
Pender @ South Brunswick -
Pender is awful and gave up 64 points to a team that didn't score a offensive TD last week (I think). South Brunswick is coming off a bad loss to S.E. Raleigh. Rocky Lewis gets a bounce back win to match last year's win total for the Cougars.
Topsail @ Dixon -
Topsail did score 64 points, but still have concerns about their offense. Dixon has not put up any points yet this season (shut out in the only game they played). The bigger stronger Pirates win this one

Does anybody want to win the conference? Maybe Ashley?

Rough night last night for the Mid Eastern Conference

It would be interesting to have 4 or 5 teams battling for the last playoff spots in the last week of the regular season.

I with you on that hotter ... Getting tired of the usual suspects battling for the top spot every year( Hoggard & New Hanover). The problem I'm seeing right now though, is the top teams are down this year instead of the bottom teams improving. Not quite sold on Ashley yet. Beating a 1A and 2A schools are not a good measuring stick, but I do see improvement.

I dont know if AHS can challenge Hoggard or NH but here is the difference with them. In the past they have squeaked by those smaller teams. This year they are beating them with ease. There is no question they are better and the gap is closing.

Hoggard 26 Pine Forest 28
NH 7 Havelock 37
Lee Co. 16 Laney 0 To be comp today.
Fairmont 12 AHS 34
WB 0 NMB 23
Pender 34 SB 12
Topsail 36 Dixon 24

Hoggard had a great opportunity to upset PF on the road but again had too many mistakes and their defense hasn't improved enough to get big stops in crunch time. Hoggard now faces a very good Carolina Forest team at home and then a very good Clinton team on the road. If the Vikes don't fix their defense they are looking at 1-4 heading into conf play.
Laney look flat and unmotivated in the first half of their game against Lee Co. They are probably lucky for the delay because this game seemed all but over as the Bucs get 1 first down and 40 yards total offense. The Bucs still have a chance but will need to turn things around quick.
NH losses to Havelock and things don't get any easier for the Wildcats as they travels to SC this week. This 3 week stretch would be brutal for any team. NH can only hope that they aren't too banged up heading into conf play.
Ashley get another big win. They have beaten a 1A and a 2A school but in the past the Eagles have struggle to win any games much less out score them 74-39. Their defense is much better as is their offense which is putting up good numbers.

West Brunswick ran into a team that matched up well to stop the Trojans at the line. They gave up 400 yards to NMB and Bubba was held to 80 yards.
South Brunswick I predict will finish last in the conference after losing to Pender who has a couple of athletes and that's it!
Topsail as expected got all they could handle with Dixon who has some speed but couldn't stop the Pirates ground game.
