Anyone know whats going on with Charlotte Catholic program. Its one thing to lose to Providence Day and Weddington , but to lose to Sun Valley and Marvin Ridge and barely getting by Porter Ridge doesn’t seem like the Catholic we know them of.
Pretty simple IMHO.
1. Coaching changes. Oddo, and Brodowicz are gone.
2. Catholic actually had to play up in classification and couldn't take advantage of a very weak 3A format. This included them being in a weak conference and having a weaker playoffs. Once they got into true 4A ball (21-24) the losses piled up and there were no championships. Now with them being in a 6A/7A conference where they belong they actually have to play games weekly vs. blowing everyone out and resting. Depth, strength, and talent mean something in 6A/7a vs. running through a super weak 3A conference.
3. CMS/State/private transfer rules/culture changed. CC now has to get CMS HS approval to accept athletes. CMS generally waives the 365 rule for CC, but the fear of possibly not being able to play keeps athletes at their assigned CMS schools. Also CC doesn't get SC guys anymore. Combine this with Providence Day becoming the defacto top private school football team in Charlotte and PD beating the wheels of CC head to head. Winning brings a culture and so does losing. The more they lose the more folks forget about the past. Look at MC/Butler for an example. Christian and PD get reclass guys. Remember CC now has much more football comp in South Charlotte for players. Providence Day, Christian, Country Day, Palisades, Providence, and South Meck are all good to great programs so they dont get the best of the best.
