I just received another media guide and it came with a letter saying that this will be the last series of media guides due to NCAA rules. Does anybody have any idea what rule this would not comply with? I would assume that something has changes recently.

but Im still not clear as to why alums can't get them.

I guess State doesn't want to blindly send them out to ticket holders/bulldog club members and have those people fall into the categories banned from getting them. The athl. dept probably doesn't want to have to check to see if someone is in the relevant categories:

It will be a lot easier/cheaper to maintain a repository of records, information, etc. in an online database than to develop a Media Guide layout every year.

Internet killed theMedia Guide.

I look at it all the time.

I agree with the internet thing, but that's not the reason given. Additionally, are other schools doing this?

Link.

Summary: The NCAA has limited access to print guides to the extent (no prospective student-athlete as well asparent, guardian, school, or coach of aforementioned student-athlete can receive one)that it's better to not produce any print guides.1

why? What's the purpose of this? A cd-rom copy is fine, but heaven help you if you give a recruit a shiny, full-color printed out one? Is this the NCAA being "environmentally responsible"? Was there some big media-guide war between the premiere programs that resulted in recruits lugging home stacks of Manhattan phone-book-thick media guides? Were there coupons for free steaks, drinks, and lap dances in the recruit versions? Haven't we discussed this before, or am I thinking of some other indescribably inane NCAA rule?
