I almost never claim to have inside sources, but

I think most of y'all will be pleased with the selection. She's a pretty well-known celebrity with MS roots, a country singer, and I think she has some family ties to MSU, if I'm not mistaken. Should be a good time Saturday. Hope y'all enjoy it.

some of her family are state fans. thats closer than a manager. if we get a country singer, it better be faith hill. i really dislike country music, but i would be ok with her because of the ms connection. if is someone that played the state fair, we have failed as a fan base. that awful.

It hasn't been decided yet. Also, remember that it is not 100% the choice of MSU. I'd say MSU has about a 10% say in who the guest is.

No, but I think Faith Hill would've been a good pick too. Apparently ESPN is making a concerted effort to target a younger demographic with the guest pickers. It's not always possible, but sometimes it works out, like with Katy Perry. It helps ESPN cross-promote Gameday on multiple platforms and all that, more Twitter buzz, etc. A lot of us older folks like celebrities like Morgan Freeman and Faith Hill, but the reality is they appeal to a more limited demographic, and not the 18-30 target demographic that advertisers really want.

If we're getting someone who's playing the state fair, it better be Ginuwine, and they better just play Pony on a loop the whole show.

If you want to reach every soul in the country 25 years old or younger put that Jerome Jarre guy on stage and have him draw some funny snapchat pictures with his phone.

My guess is Papelbon

How much of a fan is Will Clark? Does he come to games because he would be cool. I still think it's Papelbon.

Katy Perry would never had happened but for the stars aligning and we would have had Shep Smith doing it.

hmmm.... homerun? maybe it was successful after the fact. maybe not. depends on your view. it was certainly the circus, and having her bring up "cock" on national tv.....wow.

He stops by to talk to the baseball team quite a bit. I'd love for it to be Paps. He'd be a memorable guest. Guy is crazy! Unfortunately that's exactly why he won't be chosen.

Not sure if there's a MSU connection but star power...still. I would prefer Robin Roberts though.

Robin Roberts has no MSU connection that I know of other than she happens to be Lawrence's Aunt. Pretty sure she went to college in Louisiana somewhere. Would much prefer Faith Hill who is MS born and bred with a song to that fact and would be widely appealing. I've never even heard of this Gilbert guy so I don't want him but granted I'm not a hard core country fan.

It's kind of a long story, but the short version is this. The Gameday folks reached out to Britney Spears last week when it looked like a possibility, and she initially was interested, but then she backed out a couple days later claiming a scheduling conflict or something. But either Britney's mom or agent or both said Jamie Lynn would love to do it, and ESPN deliberated for about a day (and probably checked with some more celebrities) before agreeing yesterday. I'm sure y'all are already familiar with Jamie Lynn's television work, but for those who aren't aware she's also a country music artist these days with a new album coming out, and many Nashville insiders think she'll be the next Carrie Underwood. So it makes sense on a lot of levels. Pretty solid pick in my opinion. I think she'll do a good job.
