It's an Ole Miss conspiracy to mess up State's recruiting! Dang Confederates!

I love Melvin to death and he has been a big part of MSU's success since the 1990's- BUT- we havent been getting his best work the last couple of years.
We should easily make a good hire here. Smoot can be worked in some kind of way- student coach or whatever- if Mullen wants him and Smoot wants it. But we'll just have to see what route Mullen wants to go with it. We have some options and flexibility here to easily make the staff better.

The Big Question

I love Melvin to death and he has been a big part of MSU's success since the 1990's- BUT- we havent been getting his best work the last couple of years.

Was this an indictment on State's current defensive philosophy?

Melvin needed to go and this gives us an easy out. I wish him the best. No idea what Kailo ends up doing but he talks w/ Knox more than anyone so this will not really be a factor there. This is a great chance for Mullen to upgrade the staff significantly

Agree. Just thumbing through Rivals looking at some of his recent work, I believe this is a good opportunity to get some younger, fresher blood in there.

No- Melvin didnt just abandon us- he was told to look around. Thats why I've been saying I'd be surpised if he returned.

I think we have a couple of more changes coming (and no- it's not Wilson)

The one thing Smoot would bring, is energy and would easily be the best....

smoot would easily be the best coach on staff in terms of getting guys "up to play".....dude is full of swag and smack and can still relate to the younger guys....

coaching, Im sure he could bring something, but what I just said would be his best trait, and I think our team needs that more...

Do you think Melvin was told to look around bc of the NCAA heat brought on by Mirando?

Nomination for ban. Consistent skates the line and is only here to stir **** up.

Coach says that Melvin was told to look around, so I was just asking why since Melvin is considered one of your top recruiters and coaches DBs who have been good.

Every single OM poster in this thread. This is getting beyond ridiculous. Why the 17 are talking smack in a coach leaving thread. In no way does this thread even call for a rebel retort.

He's currently pursuing several promising leads

on opposing message boards. The investigation should really get going once the holidays are over and message board traffic picks back up.

Not at all. He was told to look around because his fire and passion has started smoldering that last couple of years. Maybe a change of scenery will ignite it again- or maybe he is just getting old. I dont know the answer to that question.

Change the word is to was a you'd be correct. Just look at what he's done the last few yrs and you'd see that he is no where near one of our best recruiters. Mullen almost had him leave 2 yrs ago

If Melvin had anything to do with the NCAA, then why wasn't he fired along with Mirando? So- logically, the answer is NO.

Yeah- I could see Dan being like- "Well, we have to get rid of Mirando, but let's play with fire here with Melvin and keep him around." If that was the case, Dan probably would have kept Mirando around too.

Smoot...really! We need an experienced coach who can recruit

not some ex-league blowhard bad boy whose time has passed! Maybe a graduate asst. but Smoot wants to be coach. Zero experience. Glad Melvin is GONE...he has lost his touch! Just hope he doesn't rat us out!

Coach 34 and other speculators...

Any idea of replacements? Also, who else is going to be out the door? Hevesy? Koenning?
Do we think that Brewster is going to be lured back into the HC ranks?

I havent heard of any more defensive staff changes- let's put it at that

Everybody wants Brewster to stay- if he leaves, it will be because he got a great job opportunity
Hevesy and Mullen are joined at the hip

It's strange how rebels come around here and continually turn threads into smack talk- yet the "moderators" on this board sit on their 17ing thumbs and twirl with big smiles on their faces. But as soon as an MSU poster begins to make sense and smacks back at those rebels- bam!! It's locked. This place is becoming beyond ridiculous.
