PG from low mid-major with low assist ratio. Gotcha.
Should translate well to the SEC.
Don't think he is considered a point guard. He may be capable of playing it, but this kid is a 2 guard scoring machine. Can he play through contact against SEC level competition? He put up 40 on Bama. I'd say he's not afraid of SEC competition.

And he scored 0 two games before the 51, and 6 the game after 51. Very streaky!!!
Brea, Robinson, Carr, Butler all have been streaky......
Robinson only had 2 against Duke, Butler has a streak of games that he didn't score much after the UL game

this kid is basically the entire team at his current school
I would say that he drew the opponents attention

This. Kids probably playing 3 on 5 being doubled and even triple teamed most nights. You couldn't tell me on a team featuring 4 future NBA players on the court with him that be couldn't lock in and be dangerous with set plays ran for him, as opposed to "go chuck it from 30 feet while double teamed and hope it goes in" that he's probably used to doing.

@LockedonUk has pointed out the reason I want Eaglestaff. He can go get a bucket. He's also a 36% three-point shooter, but on a HIGH volume. He won't shoot that volume at UK and safe to say, it can go up with better looks on a good TEAM. He shot 38% in 2023.

Not saying he's a guy who should play 30 minutes a game. However, he's FAR better than Ansley Almanor was as a transfer and to say "you don't want that" when this team is losing 85% of it's scoring, it frankly, crazy.

Me either, we need the best talent. I want absolute studs like Kadary Richmond last year. Butler, Jax level guys at least.
Yeah being great at a mid major might not be enough to get us where we want to go — final four level type talent . I don’t know this guy but in general not every guy that has good stats is talented enough to win SEC titles and get us back in the top ten nationally . Be nice to grab a guy or two off Power 4 teams that are proven .. but I trust Pope , he knows what it takes …without horrible injuries this year we are right there in the mix . Butler and Kerr both going down was the worst .

This kid is more streaky. In 18 of his 33 games, he made 2 or fewer 3's. In those 18 games, he made 22% of his 3's (20-91). In his last 4 games (which include his 51pt game, his 3pt shooting were 0-4, 0-4, 8-18, 0-2).
And it's not just 3's. Looking at his overall FG game by game you see a lot of bad nights. Also in 18 games (so over half) he made <40% of his FGs, shooting 32% in those games. We CANNOT play a guy who in almost 60% of the games shoots 32%!!!

You are right about the attention, assuming he can share the ball. But to me he is at best, a target to be our 4th or 5th perimeter player, definitely NOT a starter or playing 20+ mpg.

The ROLE is key. Those saying "he is a MUST GET" are implying he would be a starter or playing 20+mpg. Which I think he is WAY TOO STREAKY for that kind of role. But as a complimentary player playing 10-15mpg, more on the games where he gets hot, less on his off nights, then yeah I could support that. And I do think you could see a slightly better % from him (or anyone we are looking at) being more selective by playing on a better team.

Maggard our old pal is saying Kentucky is likely(right now) to get eaglestaff.

Frosty tips is no friend. He is about himself and his little cult. He may be right but it’s bc he’s bored and digging for info.

And btw need mention of defense. This program is going no where unless the defensive philosophy changes. I hope game one of the tournament we see a big shift

Is there anything to the rumors of him hitting the portal? Because clearly he would be the crown jewel if he does and KY should prioritize him as the number 1 target. He will cost a pretty penny but he'd be one of the few guys who is probably worth paying a premium for. I'd hate to grab the first kid we can sign only to have this kid come out later.
On the flip side, the longer you wait, the less available in the portal, the higher the price!

That is something I noticed last year! If you find a good fit you better jump on it. Even if there are 10 available at that position. It appears coaches aren't as willing to pay premium. But late in the process, and your down to 2-3 left. It gets crazy!

Braden smith for all those who didn’t want him…. We should definitely get him if he’s available.
I want Braden Smith and I guarantee you the entire coaching staff does. There are well over 300 college basketball programs who want Smith. Anyone saying they don’t want him is either unfamiliar with his body of work or is not skilled in evaluating whatsoever.

Is it true to call him one of the best shooters? He averages under 42 FG% and has never shot above 38.3 3PT% in his career. He's high volume but average efficiency. Does that make him one of the best? What's the cutoff in these superlatives?
