After The past week's embarrassing loss to a SWAC team, followed by a bounce-back 50 point win, I'm curious where everyone's head is at regarding our basketball coaching hire. Time to play Let's Make a Deal!

Behind door #1
, You can keep Rick Ray, his recruits, his disciplinary actions, his injuries, his play style, and everything that's changed since he's become coach.

OR

Behind door #2, We instead hired big name assistant coach X, which many of you think we should have hired.

OR

Behind door #3, You can have Rick Stansbury never have been fired in the first place, and get everything that goes with it.

If you pick door 2:
Who's behind that door?

If you pick door 2 or 3:
What players on the team are different than right now?
What's our current record?

If you picked any door:
What's the future look like?

Door #2: Kenny Payne baby, all day. World Wide Wes. SWAG. I have no idea why, I don't really even care about basketball.

Door one. There will be no door two if we fire Ray after one season with enough room on the bench to sell premium seating.

Door three should be padlocked, nailed shut, and have an angry pit bull guarding it.

In my opinion....

Door #3 was slammed shut because Door #2 was believed to be wide-*** open. And as a result we got Door #1.

There really isn't any other option now except door #1. Door #3 is now boarded up, wrapped in barbed wire and covered with police tape. Door #2 was never really even a possibility.

You're doing it wrong.

In Let's make a Deal, you can't see what's behind the doors. And there has to be a goat behind one of them. ***

Monty Hall is rolling over in his grave. (is that the right guy? And is he even dead?)

If we pick door #1, we will always wonder if door #2 or door #3 would be better. If we pick door #3, we wouldn't even know the guy that was door #1. If we pick door #2, we will always wonder what kinda guy has a last name like X. What kinda doors are these, and can we just bow out of all of the picks and keep the money since we are wearing this goofy costume. Are there parting gifts for those who don't win? I thought "Let's Make a Deal" used curtains.

Door 3 had to be done. Stansbury is very fortunate that he got out when he did, because Moultrie, Bost, Sidney, Hood and Deville were not coming back this year anyway for various reasons. Shaun Smith had never proven to be worth anything. The Euro was unproven and given our Euro past of Iggy and Stelmach, was probably limited in his abilities anyway. So he MIGHT have kept Josh Gray, but he would have been in the same position of adding late players that Ray was.

Because of all of that listed above, Door 1 and Door 2 were going to be in the same boat starting out. At this point I would have to choose door 1 because at the very least now our guys know they are accountable to someone and they seem to be willing to work hard in spite of their talent limitations. Now if you told me door 2 was Shaka Smart or John Groce or Steve Prohm, maybe I change my mind. But Kenny Payne and Sean Woods didn't do a whole lot for me. Payne is a name that got people excited because they had heard of him, but his coaching resume, looked at blindly, is less impressive than Ray's. And recruiting at Oregon and UK vs Mississippi State is different for two big reasons. One is the money, which hasn't helped Oregon that much in the past, but with Dana Altman they will probably be a regular NCAA team very soon. UK is UK. The other reason is that Oregon and UK are Nike schools, and that's who Wes pimps for. This debate is all the rage among the 19.83 Auburn basketball fans, who are enraged that Barbee and his connections to Wes have not produced any talent because the athletic department is signed with Under Armour. As long as we are an Adidas school, we wouldn't be getting anyone from Wes. So Payne or Orlando Antigua or Rod Strickland would actually have to recruit and coach here.

So give me door 1. I am 100% behind him for at least three years. If we still suck in three years, then it will be time to reevaluate.

I know this one. Pick door 1, have Monty open a door with a goat behind it, and switch to the unopened door.

Yeah yeah. I know the actual rules.

But this is more fun than "Would you rather have Rick Ray, or a donkey pulling a cart full of beets?"

If we took Door #3 we would be better this year and at least the next 4 years. That's my opinion. I have and will support Ray. I would love to be proven wrong. We fired one of the best coaches we ever had and hired an assistant coach that nobody ever heard of. Name another BCS school that did that and upgraded.
