Other thread got me thinking. What bad things happened to you in Memphis? Rules: must have occurred to your property or you were there personally. I don't want to hear about a guy you know. Or the time some mane asked you to hold a dolla. A bum beating you up qualifies though.

I'll start. Over a 20 year span:

1) busted car window - stolen radar detector
2) stolen pressure washer at a friend's house
3) busted car window at same friend's house (nothing stolen)
4) truck got stolen while playing golf at one munis. No guns in the truck but they got some of my good camping stuff with it.

All property stuff. Never feared for my safety. My 4 occurrences seem like the anomaly from my friend group as well.

During our Croom Bowl, stayed at a friends ….busted window, stole my cd visor which was full of mostly rock music. Stole my CD player, which had a Tool album stuck in it. Also took my old marlin .22.

I can’t say I wasn’t warned…but I figured the red blinking alarm on my dash would have been good enough.

1981 - my dad was backed into a dock in a new Chevy pickup at the Levitz Furniture Warehouse to pick up a bedroom suit. It was stolen out of the dock while he walked in to give them the paperwork to get the furniture.

I have a buddy who lived on the West side of Memphis (still does but in a better neighborhood) and someone knocked on their door one afternoon. His wife answered the door and got shot in the head. Luckily it was a .25 and grazed her head more than anything, so she wasn't hurt too bad. They never caught the guy but the police said it was likely a gang initiation.

I have traveled to every corner of the world and my friends think I’m crazy. Walked the streets of Beirut Amman Caracas Bangkok after midnight without hesitation. But I make damn sure I leave every 5hithole blue city center before the sun goes down. What a damn shame decent people have to put up and subsidize these animas

Not a Memphis citizen, but I did see this one night at a bar downtown. 100 true before I get questioned. So, me and Mrs. Devil attend a wedding at the Peabody. The ole Devil here hates wedding receptions and all that ******** so we do our thing, then we sneak off for a night on the town. It is probably around midnight when we are at a bar downtown, and I swear to Dad a hell-cat pulls into the intersection outside the bar. Starts cutting doughnuts while firing some type of very large pistol out of the window. Then proceeds to drive off. At that point, I told Mrs. time to go.

Lived in an apartment in a suburb in east Memphis in the 90's. It was a nice new complex.

Broken into while I was at work one day. All they stole was the TV. Left the remote.

Only time that's ever happened.

Spent 18 years growing up in East Memphis

-Dad’s house broken into twice
-Mom’s car stolen while working at U of M
-MiL’s house broken into
-MiL held up at gunpoint while at an ATM in midtown
-FiL’s store robbed on Danny Thomas
-FiL chased down a guy trying to break into my wife’s car while parked in the driveway
-Had a chopper flying directly over my wife and couple friends that were swimming at a neighbor’s house because a couple convicts were being chased in the ditch behind it

At least, this is what I can remember at the moment

Let’s see. Been going to Memphis since my parents moved us back to north Mississippi in 1974 so this may be a long list.

1. went to liberty land a thousand times. Got kinda sick once on the Zippin Pippin. And I think Pronto Pup was closed one time when we went.
2. spent many formative hours at Platinum Plus. Once thought an Asian stripper “liked” me and spent about $200.
3. Went to every Memphis in May concert in Tom Lee from about 1989 to 1998. Usually walked to and from Methodist hospital area. Got tired a couple of times.
4. Married my first wife there.
5. Took my current wife who is not from NM on a getaway weekend in midtown. We wanted a late dinner and the midtown Huey’s was closed (albeit because of a stabbing) Big bummer. We had to drive out to the Poplar location.
6. Entered 2 beers in the Memphis brewers extravaganza in about 2019 and only won one medal.
7. Saw probably 30 rock concerts at mid south coliseum and north hall and liberty bowl but never saw Guns n Roses!

That’s it. Lots of terrible things have happened to me in Memphis over the last 52 years and literally hundreds of trips, and these are honestly the worst.

in Starkville on the other hand I’ve had my truck set on fire, been punched in the face, cheated on by at least a couple of girlfriends and one wife, got divorced, and paid waaay too much for 2 houses.

Used to live in the Poplar/Highland area and would walk my dog around Galloway GC. One day we’re walking down Poplar and a car going north on Patterson runs a stop sign almost hitting me and tries to make a left across all six lanes. He clips two cars and sends them spinning into someone’s yard and his car finally comes to a rest when he gets t-boned in the middle of Poplar. I‘m standing on sidewalk in shock when I see the driver exit his car, throw a baggie on the ground, reach in his waistband, and start running at me. I yelled don’t do it MFer and hit the deck. Thankfully when he got to the sidewalk 2-3 cops pull up that had been chasing him. He bolts down the sidewalk (towards my house) and the cops chase after him. They finally catch him hiding in my neighbors shed. I’m the main witness and have to stick around for questioning while the cops cuff him and walk him back past me to put in the back of the squad car. He’s probably 10 feet away staring daggers at me the whole time I talk to the cops. I didn’t walk back to my house until they drove him away. That was a just a Tuesday in Memphis

Spent considerable time in Memphis, Jackhole, Murderham, Atlanta and Mobile. Nothing ever happened. The one place I had a car broken into (after market CD player - left face on like a moron) was Huntsville, the alleged lowest crime of all of them.

I also had random house casers hit me up twice there. Had to show one my pistol.

I was in Memphis for a bachelor party. The bachelorette also ended up there one night with a group of friends while we were there. She walked with him and a couple of friends back to hotel and there was a large crowd off of Beale. Really classy group who contribute big things to society and local economy.

Someone says something to his girl. Words were said. No really fighting but a stellar law abiding male pushed the female. Obviously that caused a problem.

cops roll up. Of course they pick the people least likely to cause a problem to control. My buddy has his head slammed into a light poll and the corner of a metal box cuts his eye really really bad. Like spent the night in the ER permanent scar bad. Might of even required some slight plastic surgery.

another buddy is way past his limit so he decided to have a stare off with a cop. Eventually goes to jail. Actually that was kind of funny but if he reads this he’s gonna be mad at me bc we made him stay in jail until the next morning.

Poplar and Kirby area, east Memphis. Neighbor that lived about 3 doors down. Her boyfriend asks if we had seen her, no answer on her phone. Car is there. We get landlord, they call the sheriff. She was beaten up, hogtied, thrown in the closet and robbed in the middle of the day. Huge butch white woman that worked at Kroger and that is how she decided who to rob/stalk.

American muscle car stolen while downtown on Beale. This was the Mid 90s . MPD found it a month later, nothing but the frame left.

Outboard motor stolen from my boat in the driveway.

Just a few years ago, walking on front street, a car load of good citizens stop at the light and ask me for money for their youth football team. I ignore them. Dude hangs his hand out the window holding a pistol. Says, "how about I take it from your ***." I quick turned and walked into the autozone garage/building entrance.

most embarrassing, going to grizzlies game, dude was standing at the entrance of parking lot, charging each car $10 to park. He was even giving out tickets for your dash. He was not the parking lot attendant.

Dude I worked with liked the strip clubs. He took a girl home one night, she stole his wallet and car in the middle of the night.

Same guy got pistol whipped and his wallet stolen in the Denims and Diamonds parking lot.

I could go on and on... with other people's stories.

Once I was sitting at a red light at Riverdale and Shelby drive. Middle of the afternoon. Cars in front and behind, so I couldn't go anywhere. Guy walks up to my truck and starts trying to open my door. It's locked, so he can't open it. So he starts yelling and cursing and beating on my side glass telling me to get out of the truck. I'm stuck and can't go anywhere. So I reached down and grabbed my Charter Arms .38 Special and laid it in my lap where he could see it. When he saw it, he opened a can of haulass.

Been accosted by aggressive panhandlers downtown many times. It's a bit unnerving for the wife and kids but that's what they're counting on. When they see you aren't willing to take any crap, they usually leave you alone.

In all my years of living near Memphis and going there all the time I have zero war stories. Knock on wood. Nothing has ever happened to me or my family.
Same. 24 years living in East Memphis and not a victim. Yet. Definitely knocking on wood.

I'm just the opposite, I'll skip the wedding and go straight to the reception. Free food, free booze, what's not to like? My wife has left me sitting in the car more than once listening to music or a ballgame while she goes inside to the wedding and then I'll meet her at the reception.

Gotta wonder how they can afford a Hellcat, often trimmed out with huge rims/tires and other bling.
