Okay, I will bite. With the bad losses we have accrued, what would we have to do during the SEC part of our schedule to even sniff the tournament?
Athletically this team has a high ceiling, but Jans hasnt got them playing defense.

This team is going to get boat raced in SEC play. They are horrifically bad at defense.
Their best wins (@ Georgia Tech, @Utah) likely aren't as good as a win over any SEC team, including South Carolina, who is the only SEC team that might be worse than State.
This is approaching Rick Ray level bad and without Hubbard it would absolutely be Ray days.
Jans has put himself on the hot seat for next season. This season may as well be over. I feel for the players, but it's obvious.

By "the tournament" do you mean the NIT? We might have a shot to sneak in.
Given our current record, this team needs to go 13-5 in league play to make the tournament.

Torvik says 10-8 will do it. If it tells you how bad the non-con has been though, going 18-0 would only put us as the last 4 seed.
Its going to be extremely difficult to make the tournament in a down SEC with five non-conference losses.
Our NET ranking is 134, it went down 2 spots with a win last night. Memphis has a NET of 124 and Alabama State is 240. If we win both of those to end up 8-5 non-conference, the likely conference record we would need to be safely in the tournament (NET of 40) is 14-4. Possible, but goodness that is a big ask.
If we end up middle of the pack as you state - let's just say 9-9 - we have a 17-14 record. The SEC is down big from last year. 17-14 isn't sniffing the field and would barely be a top 100 NET.
I would usually still be in my "let's see how things playout a little longer" mode but even I have to say we are terrible. That said, I'll still watch every game start to finish.
On a positive note, Marcus Grant has been a nice add to our SECN+ broadcast. Enjoy his analysis and comments. Between Neil and Richard and Bart and Marcus we have solid BKB broadcast teams.

I agree with the fact that our team can get it together and compete, but they can't make the NCAA Tournament as a middle of the pack SEC team.
12-6 or 13-5: Wrong side of the bubble, possible First Four
14-4: Squarely on the bubble, but San Francisco loss will be a topic
15-3: In the tournament
9-9 in the SEC with an 8-5 non-conference record is impossible.
If we go 9-9 in the SEC, I would consider that a shocking turn of events based on early season eye test.

I'm with you. They aren't going 0-18 but there is little room for error if they want to make a fourth straight NCAA Tournament.
The San Francisco loss in Tupelo is the only bad loss though.
Iowa State is 11-0 and ranked #4. They will be competing for a No. 1 seed.
Kansas State will be competitive in the Big 12 and should make the tournament.
New Mexico is a top 20 RPI team
SMU is No. 16 in the RPI and will be a middle of the pack ACC team
The problem is that we have no good wins to go with these decent losses. Georgia Tech has a NET of 191, Utah is 152. If we beat Memphis Saturday, it will be our best win - they will be 4-6 but have a NET of 124.
South Carolina is our only conference opponent with a sub 100 NET (although Ole Miss has a 98).
Jans has never had a SEC record better than 8-10 and this looks to be his worst team. I find it hard to believe that this team is going to get to 11 or 12 SEC wins, which is what it would take to even sniff an at-large tourney bid.

Also, If they aren't any good that is their fault. That is like a player who is not any good complaining because his team is bad.
Not only do we have a team full of mid/low talent, they play like they really do not care. Maybe they will try to step up in SEC play. Doubt it.
Hope they don't try "really hard" like we did against KY last year and then get our feelings hurt and mail it in all season after KY once again beats us with a last minute shot. Same with Bama. I honestly could see us going winless in the SEC based on what we have seen so far.
Still waiting for Hubbard to put up 50 shots trying to win us one SEC game.
