With 1 tournament out at Indiana and the B1G Championship left after this, time is running short if they want to get into the NCAA Tourney conversation. At #75 they have dropped a dozen places since the start of the Spring half of the schedule. This tourney has a fairly strong top half of the field so a good finish could help greatly.

The field includes These Top 50 teams....

#11 Vanderbilt
#16 Alabama
#18 UNC Charlotte
#35 Georgia
#44 Kentucky
#50 South Florida

Rutgers is the 9th ranked out of 16. #59 Ohio State is the other B1G entrant.

In the B1G, Rutgers is ranked 11th,. Top teams are #9 Illinois, #24 USC, #34 UCLA, #38 Washington, and #41 Northwestern.

Rutgers is going with the lineup they've used most of the year with D1 Ranking (out of 2,118 qualifiers)

#168 Fr Lucas Politano
#336 Sr Luke Koenig
#426 Soph Argyle Downes
#450 Soph Bennett Espenshade
#455 GT Jeffrey Zatorski

#1021 Fr Daniel Martinez Regal will play as an individual.

In the 1st Round, RU will be paired with Ohio St and UNCG, starting on #10.

Really isn't much to say other than a very poor start for the Knights, shooting 10 over, 298, 31 strokes behind the leader. They stand ahead of only #233 West Georgia and 1 stroke behind #187 Wofford. During their Back 9 the team had two Quadruple Bogeys, one triple Bogey and 2 Double Bogeys. Bennett Espenshade, was a bright spot shooting 1 Under Par. He teed off on his last hole 4 Under, within the Top 10 individually but played the hole 3 Over. Jeff Zatorski shot an Even Par 72. Argyle Downes shot 77, Luke Koenig 78 and Lucas Politano 79.

Playing as an individual, Daniel Martinez Regal shot 74.

Top 5 Teams

1. #35 Georgia............-21
T2. #158 Mercer.........-11
T2. #59 Ohio St
T4. #11 Vanderbilt....-10
T4. #16 Alabama

In Round 2, Rutgers will be paired with Wofford and West Georgia.

Thanks Tango, was out last night so didn't have a chance to give an update.

This is a tough situation. The team really needed a good tourney and it's not happening. Teeing off on #10 again, the team shot 2 Under on the back 9 but just like Friday, the Front 9 was not their friend as they shot 5 Over.

Rutgers was able to climb from 16th after Round 1 to 13 at the end with a 2 Under 286. Still, not a good finish. This was a tourney with a strong field so a decent finish would have given them a lot of scoring points but once again, the team put itself in a tough position right off and couldn't catch up.

Bennett Espenshade continued his fine play with a 1 Under 71. His 3 Round total of 3 Under put him tied for 19th out of 108. Argyle Downes also shot 71. Jeff Zatorski and Lucas Politano shot Even Par with Luke Koenig coming in with a 75. As an Individual, Daniel Martinez Regal shot 78.

Georgia's Carter Loffin and Alabama's William Jennings had been tied for 2nd, 1 stroke behind the leader after Saturday. Loffin took control today and never looked back, shooting an 8 Under 64 to take the Individual Title with Jennings 5 strokes back in 2nd.

Georgia dominated the event from the get go and smoked the field.

Top 5 Teams

1. #35 Georgia..................-48
2. #16 Alabama................-27
3. #11 Vanderbilt.............-20
4. #18 UNC Charlotte....-18
5 #73 Elon..........................-16

8. #59 Ohio St -1
13. #75 Rutgers +11

The team next plays Apr 18-19 at Indiana's Hoosier Collegiate. Along with RU and host Indiana, the 15 team field includes the B1G's Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Kansas from the B12 is also entered.

After that is the B1G Championship at Pumpkin Ridge GC in North Plains, Oregon May 1-3.
