Well, played like poo but won. Chalk it up and move on.
We had a lid on the basket (that’s a quote from Bob Fulton back when Roche and Owens were here; it happens) and they were making ridiculous shots. That’s basketball; not every team is going to go out and be the 1970 UCLA Bruins every game.

No we won`t win the SEC. But when another team is hot, has an 11 pt. lead on us with a few minutes to go and we find a way to win, give Lamont and the team credit. Not always pretty and we had little inside game. We can improve. They didn`t give up and thank God Meechie came back. He was unconscious late hitting the NBA 3`s. And how many times have we missed the critical free throws that he and Eli hit at the end. Tonight we made them when we had too.

Johnson with some bombs!
When he's on he's the bomb but unfortunately, he's not always on and sometimes even way off.

Kinda worried about rebounding. We have no traditional bigs that can bang down low. Meechie and Sharajamts wers co-leaders in boards in game one and Eli Ellis was the leader in game two.

We've got work to do for sure, but they're fun to watch and that was a gutsy win. We have a totally new team, it's going to take a little time to gel, not sure why you dump on this team in game 2. We definitely need to find some inside game, a lot of one shot offensive possessions and multiple shot possessions for them, EE leading rebounder is not a good look. LP needs to give some tough love to our bigs early and get them on the right path. we're going to take some losses, but we'll surprise some folks as well! I don't see us last in the league.

So long as it’s early season kinks, it’s all good

Fantastic come from behind win.

My observations about last night.

Defensively we get caught in switch-offs a lot leaving them with open shots. We don't rebound well even with our size. Offensively, we will go as far as Meechie Johnson can carry us.

I’m concerned about our inside game and our big guys, said this after our first game too; not a whole lot of fire there. Turnovers hurt us too, same as first game; they got 25 points off of our turnovers. The stripes had a deer in headlights look in the first half, afraid TO call, afraid NOT to call; you could see they were chummy with gramps coaching SMiss and the foul disparity was hurting us in the first half. Finally evened out in the second half; for the free throw percentage critics we were 81% in free throws.

Social media tends to dump on guys when they’re not getting their feel good dopamine boost from a game’s outcome, really all they care about, and they dump on our guys AND the other guys. That team we played last night WANTED it, wanted it badly, were fighting hard to get it, had two guys making consistent highlight reel shots, and were getting a little help also. The title of this thread is ridiculous.

The title is par for the course with the majority of this group.

Tonight.
Look slower and less athletic than Southern Miss.
Don't have a lot of confidence in Paris.
LOL... I swear the fans on this forum don't look at anything with actual context and thought. This team is 98% brand new... this team has really only been fully together a few months.... there are upgrades across the board. The only issue with this group is the lack of inside presence and a defense that will need to get better. Relax... Paris is doing what he does.

I'm with ya! This group is painful. They beg for losses.
I don't beg for losses. I want to win every game in every sport. Read my posts. I'm happy when we win in football and pissed when we lose. So I spoke too soon. Every poster on this board has probably been guilty of it at some point. I have every right to be frustrated with state of our men's major port programs as a whole. What's more annoying is people that claim "I'm a better fan than you".

No one wants to be a better fan my friend; just want to be fans, and be among fans, without wading through an Ann Landers column discussing feelings and he did me wrongs to do so. I think that’s what you guys call garnet colored glasses, which I’m dimn glad I have; pretty much a necessity with our program.

You are not allowed to be frustrated with any team. Otherwise the posters who whine about feelings will get their feelings hurt.

Oh wait, already happened.

You just need to learn to be a better fan. Up to their standards and all.

Essandoko is a statue. Butler is more athletic and mobile.

I actually have a decent feeling on the basketball season. Yes, last night wasn't the prettiest game, but I think So Miss will end up being a top team in their conference. It's early in the season and these guys have limited in game experience playing with each other. The primary thing that concerns me is lack of a 'big man' in conference play.

One of the benefits of this new NIL era. Even after early season games, there is still lots of room for speculation on just how good the various teams are.

This almost exact comment was made about VT when we beat them in football this year. We actually had to wait and watch several games just to see if it was a "good win" or not.

Right…. The good fans will post about losing the game and how terrible we are before the game is over. The good fans will scream fire a coach the first time the offense goes three and out. The good fans, well, you should know.

Weird notion, "good" fan vs "bad" fans.

I figure we're all just fans. As widely varied as any fan base.

Exactly that. Simeon looks mentally slow to respond with basketball instincts. they controlled the boards early on. Lucky to squeak that one out
Nah, disagree. Assimean I assume you’re referring to; he does what he’s expected to do in there, actually better than I was anticipating. The two seven footers are the ones that I worry about being of any real benefit.

Luck? We were down six with a minute left in regulation; that’s not luck. LUCK is SMiss not getting called on either the hack or the trip at the end of regulation that would have sent Meechie to the line with two game winning free throws waiting on him. That’s ’luck.’

Butler seems to be developing. Essandoko - not so much ... lacks athleticism.

I only watched the 20 minute extended highlight but Ellis looks like the real deal. Kid can ball. Need to somehow get a legit big man and swing guy next year.

It remains to be seen, but right now we have no presence in the paint. Only scored like 14 points in the paint. That's not going to bode well in the SEC... and with nobody to rebound, if we don't make the 3-pointers, which are streaky at best, it could be a long conference season.

I would say we didn't Sunday night. We have some size with guys like Kapic, Strong, Assemian, Polk, Knox, Essandoko, Stute and Butler, but I got the feeling we were not really trying to play big. Looking forward to the next game against Presbyterian. I remember they gave us fits last year.

Wow, I looked at our schedule and on3 only has us favored in one conference game. A lot of close games but L's.

True, we have two 7-footers, but they aren't dudes in there like the CMB kid we had last year who was 6'10.
