SS and Calipari different situation than JQ and Pope.

in both p, ,the UK coaches were at fault but for different reasons.

Pope is at fault for betting millions of UK money, on a player till recovering from ACL. Any professional teams do very detail medical checkups before they commit roster spots and millions in contracts to a player. This move showed that Pope needs an experience and connected GM to guide him and help him avoid this type of situation.

Cal was just Cal with his crazy “players first “ coverup of not being able to shake Mitch for program necessary improvements and adapt his coaching to the 21st century.

Pope recruited JQ because he couldn’t land a big fish and tried to use it as momentum. I think that’s clear. He decided to take the name and future NBA guy to divert attention away from how bad of a recruiter he is and try and give himself momentum in recruiting. But there’s a reason the only OAD style NBA guy he’s ever landed, has a bad knee and most backed off. I don’t know why more people dont see to get that but…it’s obvious.

Pope never really knew if he’d play or not, probably thought we’ll use the name for recognition and maybe he could come in around feb. and play and do some good. But he wasn’t recruited to make a big impact here. “3 players injured” has got to be the funniest excuse of the pope era to me thus far. It’s laughable to even type it lol. Just seems obvious imo.

So injuries have had zero impact on Popes first 2 seasons here?

The best thing he could do for his son. Is not get on twitter at all. If someone comes up to him in public mouthing off. Sure. Let them have it. He is hurting his son’s future. NBA teams monitor this stuff. Unless the kids a can’t miss, they’re gonna pass on them with a parent like this.
Not to mention, they’re already gonna be very hesitant to draft him due to his injury. Also, this will be the deepest NBA Draft in a long time. I just see no possible way he goes lottery. He doesn’t have a jump shot, doesn’t shoot free throws well, not an elite passer, etc. He does, however, have a ton of upside and athleticism. I’ll be surprised if he even goes first round at all.

Or it could just be a father reacting emotionally to people going after his kid. sometimes a parent draws a line. I thought it was funny. The guy deleted his post too.
You think that even matters? Like throwing blood in a school of piranhas 😂

I’m talking about this season. Last season injuries definitely made an impact. But it doesn’t matter, what a lot of people don’t seem to realize is if you go to a lot of coaches who’ve been fired, you’ll find that injuries derailed plenty of their time in many cases. It’s part of it for many coaches unfortunately.

This season I don’t believe it’s causing the issue. People are projecting that Kam was going to become a really good player. And I’m fine with no Lowe. We appeared to improve in many areas without him, and Chandler an OO probably don’t become what they have been with him playing. I doubt it. JQ is not a factor in the injury talk, he was never healthy and part of anything. So Kam isn’t Kobe, and Lowe might have ended up making the situation worse. Just another guy to take possessions away from Chandler, more subbing, another high volume guy. We don’t need it.

Coaches like Pearl have made final fours with their best players out. So it is what it is. Find a way.

That’s what happens when the UK allowed the gamble with someone else money…. 22 million of it.

But BBN is the best fanbase in college sports… right?

Supports and encourages their players past and present!

Ask CMP and JQ.

If JQ returns to college it won’t be in Lex although it should be
Wait, you think UK fans are the only fans that critisize their own?
There literally is no sports program at any level that doesn't deal with critisism and keep in mind, these are no longer just innocent college kids, they're making millions of dollars.
Heck, JQ might be making the most money on the team.
Pope is making 5 million a year.
If I was getting the money JQ is getting and I wasn't playing, I would ask to be critisized.

I’d be fine if JQ left UK tomorrow. He ain’t coming back next year so what purpose does it serve to have him here now? He and his dad have been a net negative for two straight seasons for UK and he wasn’t even here last year.

What prompted the exchange in the OP was JQ’s dad posted for the first time in nearly two months and it was about a mock draft having JQ at 29. All his dad gives a damn about is the NBA so he can get his hands on even more unearned money than he did this year.

I have a feeling they both were hoping for UK to fail miserably while he was on the bench and then him come save us…. But it’s funny af after he started sitting again we won like four or five straight. They’ve been sour ever since… well the dad. JQ hasn’t said much. His looks have said enough for me tho. Guy thinks he’s the next coming

Still no evidence he has any offensive game. So I question whether he will be drafted in the first round. Also I feel as if he should not even travel with the team. Sure seems as if his camp is trying to maintain his pre-injury reputation and sliding him into the draft. No way he is at UK next year so why let him travel with the team?

There are so many weak losers and apologizers on Twitter. The Kentucky accounts on their are soy boy pansies that have no backbone. It’s not JQs fault we overpaid him knowing he was hurt. It’s also OKAY to call people out on their **** like we do here but on there they fold. Too many Monday nitros on that site.

I wasn’t one beating the war drum against him never coming back but if his dad or the staff had maybe communicated a little better before and during this ordeal (not that they should have to) maybe this wouldn’t have been so blown overboard. We are all frustrated he wasn’t playing and maybe if they had reassured he is just as frustrated it would have went a long ways with the BBN.
What haven’t they said that they were supposed to? He came back (probably too early) and has since had a set-back with swelling. Do you need to see weekly pics of his knee? Get your own medical opinion from a non-UK doctor?

And some of you genuinely think Pope is the only reason top HS kids are turning down our money and it has nothing to do with the toxic side of our fanbase. Think what you want
Not justifying fans but it is naive to think UK is alone:

You are correct. But when a kid is considering UK or anyone else, its also naive to think players(and their family and friends) don't check out the teams message boards and twitter in 2026. And don't be fooled, other teams and coaches gladly forward that crap to anyone considering us

You can do that for every single fanbase. I live in columbus trust me Ohio State fans are psychotic doing the stupid blame game for weak recruiting on the fans is ridiculous.

Yes...but who has the largest fanbase...

ohio state, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Notre Dame, Tennessee, UNC, etc etc all have huge fanbases. None of them have any issues recruiting in football or basketball depending on the schools priority. Trying to say having a large fan base is a negative is dumb imo when all the schools with the largest fanbases are the ones that are always the most successful.

he may not be Shaedon Sharpe but the issue here is the fans have been burned by this before.

I don't like or dislike JQ, but I suspect he isn't giving the checks back. Like any Dad, I'm sure he wants to protect his son but at the end of the day , they are going to do what is best for JQ and what is best for UK basketball or what is owed will not enter into the conversation

So Dad is going to have to get over it. UK fans are just voicing a rational response to someone getting paid millions of dollars and there isn't any effort to update them on his attempts to play. Everyone is being intentional ambiguous about it ,and it appears he will not play another game, then go to the pros taking every cent he got from UK with him

so Dad, excuse us if we have a problem with it. You expect loyalty from the fans to support your son but UK's only purpose for JQ now is plan C after plan A being the NBA and plan B being fielding all offers to the highest bidder.
