The compromise itself is as dumb as the people that ring them when they aren't supposed to.
That's exactly why I don't bring mine in the game. I used to ring it to cause more noise. If I can't do that, I have no reason to bring it in at all. The compromise was pretty much a ban on cowbell noise at any time that could be beneficial to us. I see no reason to bring it in the stadium to ring during a timeout.Question: Many of you say you don't even bring your bell because you don't want to be tempted to ring at the wrong times. How is that any different than having them banned? Either way you aren't ringing a bell. I think that's the mindset of many of the irresponsible ringers. Might as well ring them now because losing them for good is an inevitability. Full disclosure: I haven't had a bell in Davis Wade since I was in college 10+ years ago.
Take their bells. Start Saturday. One warning, then security takes your bell. Issue claim tickets or let them put their names on their bell to reclaim later. If they won't give it up, give 'em the boot.

This is what should concern everyone. A lot of people say "well we always snuck them in before, we will do it again!" No, you won't. We did before because our administration turned a blind eye, as it were. If the league gave us a shot at being respectful with the bells and we blow it, then the administration will have to enforce the ban. Besides, that means that shiny little "medicinal" item of mine that has been to oh so many games would have to stay at home too!
ROFL! your side excuse for keeping the bells quiet is so you can sneak booze into the game? did you flunk out at OM? this entire empassioned plea to "ring responsibly" and "be respectful" sounds more like the league saying "why don't you be good little doggies and just lay there quietly". it has always sounded this way even before there was any sort of compromise.
