i say there is a 90 % chance that scott was told by the sec office to get his cowbells in line before the sec office takes it into their own hands.

please people that ring. try just yelling for one hole game....just try it once.

The compromise itself is as dumb as the people that ring them when they aren't supposed to.

The original compromise was hardly a compromise and wasn't much better than having a ban. But I think the current set up is pretty good. Being able to ring through the huddle (although the no-huddle sort of limits the effectiveness) still adds a lot to the atmosphere.

Question: Many of you say you don't even bring your bell because you don't want to be tempted to ring at the wrong times. How is that any different than having them banned? Either way you aren't ringing a bell. I think that's the mindset of many of the irresponsible ringers. Might as well ring them now because losing them for good is an inevitability. Full disclosure: I haven't had a bell in Davis Wade since I was in college 10+ years ago.

No he is getting calls about it ...bells are in serious jeopardy

No way the SEC office will allow 2 top 6 teams to fall, as loud as those bells were on 3rd downs last saturday

25% which is generous ring them over the center this week and we win ...you won't take your bell in DWS in 2015

They have warned
They have fined
Athletic office has tweeted every day about ring videos
Now a Stricklin letter to all fans
if you like the bells you better put them down with the center gets over the ball

This is not going to end well. Too many folks who will do what they damned well please.

As Jeff Foxworthy once said, "This is why we can't have nice things."

That's exactly why I don't bring mine in the game. I used to ring it to cause more noise. If I can't do that, I have no reason to bring it in at all. The compromise was pretty much a ban on cowbell noise at any time that could be beneficial to us. I see no reason to bring it in the stadium to ring during a timeout.

Who did Stricklin send the letter to? I haven't gotten an email or anything else. If he tweeted it, not everybody (I daresay a large majority) Tweet or even read Twitter.

There aren't that many who have bells in my area, but I did notice some ringing them all the time. I haven't taken one in years.

Just so I have this right,

Do we stop ringing when the OL walks up to the LOS or when the center bends over and puts his hand on the ball?

Take their bells. Start Saturday. One warning, then security takes your bell. Issue claim tickets or let them put their names on their bell to reclaim later. If they won't give it up, give 'em the boot.

I'd prefer no warning. And the boot, with Jumbtron coverage.

I think it was LSU. I remember Miles making some stupid whiny statement about how they are illegal and should stay that way or something like that.

I agree except the claim ticket should include a fine to get it back. Maybe $20

or whatever the price of a new one is.

You guys do realize it was Auburn that helped us get the Cowbell Compromise in the first place, right? Without Jay Jacobs lending his support, the thing probably wouldn't have passed at all.

when we are 1-7 in the SEC, the rest of the league thinks that we are cute little "clangas" and don't mind that there's a bell anywhere near the stadium.

this isn't about having something nice.

does UT get some unfair advantage having Rocky Top piped in on the loud speakers? does the league bother to enfore that artificial noisemaker rule on them? no. it's pretty much the haves/have nots. we've always been considered the have nots. i don't know what amount of winning it would take, in fact, i'm nearly certain the landmass between georgia and mississippi would implode long before we'd get enough wins to change the course.

hell, we win saturday, i have no doubt that there'll be a story that some booster gave one of our players a 5 pack wendy's frosties coupon book 4 years ago.

while i completely believe this team is "different", i don't believe for one instance that the rest of the league is "different" or ready to accept it.

Most of the qpeople I see ringing during a play are 10-12 yr olds running loose with cowbells! Parents police your kids! AdUlts grow up and and follow the damn rules!

I wonder if part of his decision to write this letter was to show that, at least on the institutional level, that Mississippi State is trying to comply.

How about a cool video explaining the rules shown before the game and during quarter breaks. Some people don't know or notice the rules for the ringing. They should ring it home for the blind.

After reading that Auburn was bringing cowbells, could he have put this out as a counter to their motivations and to cover our asses? Hence the "If you see someone disregarding the rules, do me a favor and ask them to stop. If we continue having this issue, security will be deployed to either remove offending cowbells, or the individuals who are ringing irresponsibly, from the stadium."

WELL PLAYED, STICKLIN. WELL PLAYED.

This is what should concern everyone. A lot of people say "well we always snuck them in before, we will do it again!" No, you won't. We did before because our administration turned a blind eye, as it were. If the league gave us a shot at being respectful with the bells and we blow it, then the administration will have to enforce the ban. Besides, that means that shiny little "medicinal" item of mine that has been to oh so many games would have to stay at home too!

ROFL! your side excuse for keeping the bells quiet is so you can sneak booze into the game? did you flunk out at OM? this entire empassioned plea to "ring responsibly" and "be respectful" sounds more like the league saying "why don't you be good little doggies and just lay there quietly". it has always sounded this way even before there was any sort of compromise.

The compromise is more anti State than ole miss is. But you can ring it much more than just the timeouts. Im a student at State and i cant say i didnt ring mine on some 3rd downs but for the most part i stop ringing when the center puts his hand on the ball.

I think it's up to us as fans to call out the ones in our section also. But I think these words will go mute on the student section. Hell,we couldn't have bells in my days at state, but we sure rang them.
