Anyone heard anything on Metrocast and the SEC Network? If I need to switch, I want to do it early.

Plenty of time between now and August!

I expect my cable provider to wait until the last second.

I don't expect any less. Will be surprised if CABLEONE acts before late July.

Ill be MIA by about that time. Greener pastures.

Heard they've had some people recently going door to door in Starkville offering a great rate for phone/internet/cable but requiring a 2-year contract commitment. Makes me wonder if they are planning on holding off on carrying the SEC network and want to lock in their customer base before it becomes an issue. Also, may be protective with Cspire fiber TV service starting up soon.

If I was Cspire, I would be working furiously on getting a SEC network deal early as that could really help their numbers with their fledgling fiber service if Metrocast balks at it.

Based on this page, C Spire has it

Looked on the Cspire fiber website and found this: http://www.cspire.com/fiberhome/fiber_standard_channels.html

not for a gig a second it isn't. Though I'd be interested to know if they cap bandwidth, or have throttling capabilities.

I would jump all over their phone internet and TV service package. I would also drop my internet in a heartbeat for just the internet.

I have to ask. In an residential setting, what is a 1 gb/s good for? Teleconferencing with your neighbor in HD? Stream 4K porn into every room in your house at the same time? Some combination of the two? I just can't envision any practical use for that much bandwidth. I've got 30 mb/s where I am now and I can't imagine needing any more bandwidth.

My thoughts exactly

I could see a business benefiting from a gig a second but for a residential customer I dont see it

I have a home based business. I've looked into Xfinity business class and it's not worth the cost. 1 gb for $50 less than their business class is a no brainier.

Why do I keep seeing posts asking what would 1gig/s be good for??? Anything you want! Metrocast Ultra internet in Starkville is $70/mo for 50MB/s... So same price for 20 X's faster internet? hmm tough one. Streaming Netflix, YouTube, anything else would be amazing and instant. The world is moving toward more cloud type hosting services, so that means more streaming and downloading. Instead of waiting for your info, It would be as close to instant as your going to get.

To get the TV channels that Starkville's Metrocast's Basic Extended is around $90... So add an extra $50 to my internet is a bargain.

There are quite of few places in the world that already use 1gig/s speeds, but America is so Monopolized, it's ridiculous. Thank God for Google Fiber and C Spire Fiber. I'm so excited!
