Purchased by Randy Travis. This should be interesting. Hopefully he won't lose the $48 he paid for it. Just kidding. Not sure of the purchase price or plans

Actually he bought the Burlington Coat Factory store…

I posted about it yesterday evening here:

I thought about being more location specific with my title but I couldn’t resist the snark…

I actually feel sorry for him and whoever is managing his investment portfolio should be fired. Tater snookered ole Randy…this ranks up there with the Jackson speedway and that Rez resort fiasco.

It definitely has the feel of elder abuse.

I read the article. It makes no sense to me how anyone can see that as a good use of funds, or have any potential for success. I hope I'm wrong and it is the start of something positive for West Jackson, but I wouldn't bet my own money on it.

Just for clarity, Tate didn't snooker anyone. Some rich guy offered to buy up a shitthole eyesore building in his state's capital and try to do something good with it, so he took some photos with said guy and said, 'good luck, let us know how we can help'. Anyone would do the same.

The Rez resort wasn't a fiasco for the state. The guy who bought it 25+ years ago still owns it and from what I can tell is doing just fine financially. If you are saying you wish they had followed through with the plan they announced 20+ years ago, I agree with you - would have been nice. But that was all private money, no public funds were wasted putting a plan out.

I think a scaled down version of the Rez thing would have worked and If I recall he was going to do it in phases. I wish Randy the best, I just don’t see it.

Does anyone rise fund it odd this is being done through a charitable foundation? I have no idea what the motivations are for doing this. But if someone wanted to find a way to funnel a lot of money that he had taken a charitable contribution deduction for to friends & family, this would be a way to do it b

I finally read the article above. The Travis folks aren't making any outlandish claims about doing anything at all with the property. That's all coming from the realtor and some of the typical Jackson grifters.

I don't know why they acquired it, but nothing is in the works anytime soon so good for Randy.

I had a summer office job in that area in the late 80's. A few of us would go have a good lunch at a restaurant at Metrocenter. All I remember is it had a good salad bar (remember those days).

Anybody know the name? It may have been a Ruby Tuesday's?

Harborwalk looked like a really badass concept. I hate that it never came to fruition.

I believe that guys name was John Bardwell that leased Main Harbor years ago with the "pie in the sky dream" of water taxis, shopping mall, high rise hotel, etc etc etc. He missed lease payments to PRVWSD, and let it sit there forever. He died some years back, not sure if its in the family still or who has it now.

$5,000,000 won't even be enough to clean up the empty Olde English 800 bottles and Black & Mild butts that litter the parking lot....

The Randy Travis Country Store huh, you hear that PoopPop? I hear they've got some awesome brisket, better than Buc-ee's

If nobody is paying PRVWSD, I would think there is no longer a valid lease.

This is a brilliant move by Randy. He paid 5 million for his section of the mall and it can be a money making machine. First I bet its in an empowerment zone, so he is getting tax breaks like no other. And what is his pitch? The Randy Travis Ammo Depot and Armory. Get all your ammo and AR needs at a one stop. Add in the Randy Travis John Wick bulletproof supplies and helmets. Not to be outdone, is the Randy Travis Weed Emporium and Liquor Store. Adding to the one stop shop is the Randy Travis Funeral Parlor/ Crematorium meeting all the needs of the murder capital of the US 4/5 years. Finishing this attraction is the large awning showcasing the endless array of prostitutes. Its a win win.

His snookering of the PRV folks closed at least one very successful business (I can't remember if the other bar in the Dock's parking lot was still operating) that employed people, paid taxes and provided entrainment. Plus I'm sure that guy got some type of tax breaks or other inducements. Not only that, but it tied up a very desirable area that could have spawned other businesses that would have thrived. There are wet slips there now.

That's it!!

I knew it wasn't Ruby Tuesday's. Did they have a salad bar or am I confused? Was that a chain?

Widow Watson's was located inside the McRae's Department Store. I worked in the cash office at a few of the McRae's stores during Christmas and summer breaks. I think that they turned in their cash receipts to our office, so don't think it was a chain. Maybe @Darryl Steight could say for sure.

I thought they renamed the joint "Murder Center". Kidding aside, Kash Patel and his FBI/DOJ crime task force will kick off their large metro cities crime prevention initiative in guess what southern city?.....yep, yous be right......Memphis. Most were thinking NYC, Detroit, LA, Baltimore, Chicago, etc. Nope, our fan favorite, Memphis. #1 in all major FBI crime statistics. Personally, I hope they can do something for that town. My kids took me to the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid for my birthday. My only question was....."can I take my .38 spc. with hydroshok rounds? Yep, I could, so I replied "Let's Go!!" BTW, what a fabulous place to visit. We spent 4 hours there including lunch at Wahlburgers and still didn't see half the stuff I wanted to. We're gonna go back to see the rest later. BTW, very gun friendly place. You can CC or OC. Having a CC permit is handy although I don't think they require it. Highly recommend any of you wanting to take a peak......fun place.
