This entire incident is completely logic-defyingly weird. Sometimes book reviewers criticize by saying "Why would that character do that? He wouldn't!" Same applies to this whole scenario. But he did. Unless there's more than meets the eye to the story.

I can't make sense of it...

Well, I think it's still a four game played limit without losing a year of eligibility. So if any Spartans plan to pursue that option, they'd need to stop playing after the Maryland game unless they missed a game for some reason. How many guys will announce transfer intentions this week, or before next week's Iowa game? Then they have a bye before coming to Piscataway.

He'll sue the school and try to settle for as much as he can get. That's the last dime he'll earn as a coach.

I wonder how much he will wind up with

It’s quite possible he’ll get nothing unless someone proves that money changed hands (or she received some other measurable benefit) to deliberately set him up. I highly doubt that happens but nothing would surprise me.

There’s really no incentive for the school to negotiate unless they simply don’t want the headache of dealing with him or having the whole situation discussed in the media any more. Maybe it’s just easier to pay him a small token to move on faster?

He doesn’t have a leg to stand on though in terms of contesting the fire for cause.

BTW how much does big brother Michigan LOVE the timing of all of this? Everyone forgot about Harbaugh's suspension.

Between claiming CHOP and the general nonsense he spews in interviews on the B1G Network and in post-game pressers, this incident and his response to it seems on-brand for him. Hope he doesn't see another dime.

MSU should've placed him on leave the minute the complaint was filed in December or when they hired the investigating attorney in March.

I thought MSU was going through the pro-forma of a hearing next month. He was gonna be canned anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Lawyer Robert Barnes said the case against Tucker is sketchy and MSU is just trying to get out of paying him millions

Maybe her legal case is sketchy. But he shouldn’t have been messing around because it’s a near certainty that Michigan State’s anti harrassment policy / code of conduct is broad enough for this behavior to fall under the umbrella of fire for cause.

I don’t think anyone cared about Harbaugh’s suspension against 3 cupcakes anyway.
They were going to love it either way. But there will always be the viral video of the Michigan fan crying like a little baby when MSU beat them miraculously that one year.

For criminal charges case against Tucker might be sketchy , but being fired as a result of a moral clase in Tucker's MSU contract there probably is a strong case and of course MSU is going to try and save millions by using the fired for cause termination.
Did Barnes cive a reason for why he said the case was sketchy ?

Yeah for criminal or even civil charges the case may be sketchy. For employment law purposes and grounds to fire for cause it seems cut and dry unless he can prove it was a deliberate set up. It’s considered harassment for a male employee to call a female “sweetheart” - that’s the typical type of example in the annual training. It’s not possible that he didn’t meet the bar for what’s not allowed under Michigan State’s harrassment policy.

Michigan State is making a tough call here. They know given recent history of their athletic department, their is very little room for a drawn out process. Interestingly, one has to wonder if there was a similar history at Rutgers whehter the national news would focus on shutting down all athletics here (but give Michigan State and others a pass).
