Just shut out Florida State to go 2-0. One win away from the finals. Imagine that, a northern, cold weather team beating schools from the South. Three words for the soon to be named new RU baseball coach and staff: Pitching, pitching, pitching.

Hey New Jersey ball players, you don't have to go South to win. Stay home and win here and leave your parents a short car ride to watch you play.

Particularly pitchers. If being drafted and playing in the MLB is your goal and dream, you don’t have to pitch at Vandy or Texas or UNC to get noticed. A pitcher who dominates in the Patriot League will get noticed. This year a pitcher from Lehigh went in the third round and a Navy pitcher in the fourth. Same goes for pitching in the Big Ten. A pitcher who played for Northeastern and did well (graduated in 2016) was picked by the Indians in the third round and just got called up to AAA and threw a 1-0 shut out in his debut. I know the family and word is he will be getting his MLB call up this year. Have to convince some good pitchers that RU is the spot for them, and if they do well the sky’s the limit.

Not quite accurate . Michigan still has to win 2 out of 3 against the winner between Texas Tech and Fla. St (bracket 1), the winner of Bracket 1 then plays in the finals against winner of Bracket 2 (Vandy vs Louiville), also 2 out of 3

I don’t believe you’re correct. Michigan has not lost a game yet. They only have to win 1 of 2 vs the FSU/TT winner, not 2 of 3, to move on to the championship round. Then best out of three. So THREE wins to the title.

Michigan drilling TT. 15-3 in bottom of 8th. Vandy will be tough in final, but Michigan can absolutely beat Louisville, especially with Cards needing 2 wins.

Extra sweetness for Michigan fans. Texas Tech waxed Michigan 63-44 in NCAA hoops. Only 5 players scored that night for Michigan.

Hard to believe but this is the first appearance by a Big Ten team in the championship series since Ohio State won it all in 1966.

Not that surprising when you consider the advantages southern schools have when it comes to baseball. They're practicing on actual baseball fields in warm weather in January and February. Puts them ahead of the northern schools in terms of preparation

The preparation gap has closed somewhat with the growth of indoor hitting and practice facilities in the Northeast, and the abundance of travel teams that run year round and hold winter training sessions. This is a relatively recent phenomenon. When I was in HS in NJ and playing HS baseball (early 80’s), there were no travel teams or indoor facilities dedicated to baseball. In February and March we would prepare by going outside if we could. If it was too cold we would hit tennis balls or sponge balls. The HS gym had a batting cage that was available at very limited times only when baseball season started. That was about it. Still, there is nothing like being able to play and practice outside on a regulation field Year round. A clear advantage to kids from the South and California, etc.

That’s why the MLB draft is dominated by players from CA, FL, TX, GA and AZ every year.

And the South hasn’t fully embraced sports that compete with baseball, particularly lacrosse.

That pitcher from Northeastern that I mentioned last week made his MLB debut on Saturday for the Indians. Threw 6 shutout innings and got the 2-0 win.

Again, you don't have to play for Vandy or UCLA or Texas or Florida, etc. to get noticed and make the show. Particularly pitchers.

Bobby Brownlie was awesome. He was player of the year for the Star Ledger when he graduated from Edison High School. I had him as a student in 9th & 10th grades and he was a straight A student. It was a shame that he developed arm troubles. He also was rated the # 1 amateur baseball player in the country and was on the cover of Baseball Weekly or Baseball AmericaI believe.

Really looking forward to seeing Rocker pitch. Apparently he was a potential #1 pick if he went pro in 2018. 19Ks against Duke recently. With that said, UM's pitcher has a better ERA.

This proves northern schools can have great seasons. With more and more indoor facilities being built in the north for youth baseball, I think you are going to see this type of run more common.
