Our class valedictorian made a 19. She wasn't valedictorian because she was smart. She was valedictorian because she was a teacher's kid, and could kiss *** better than anyone. She was valedictorian by a few hundredths of a point over a guy who made a 34 on the ACT. **** happens. It was the difference between making a 94 in a 9 weeks period and a 96 in a 9 weeks period in a class that had heavy "bonus points" It was a damn travesty.

When he gave his salutatory speech, we gave him a standing ovation. When she fumbled through hers, we clapped half-heartedly.

I made a 24 when I took it in 8th grade. Did not take it again until 11th and made a 28. It was good enough to get me a pretty good scholarship. I was a lazy *** student. I graduated in the middle 50 percent of my high school class, and had about a 2.8 GPA at dear 'ol State when I graduated.

Him and I are successful engineers. She did not make it through two years of junior college. Facebook stalking tells us that she ended up opting for an Mrs. degree instead.

In small town Mississippi, the valedictorian is very rarely the smartest kid in the class - its the one who either (1) kisses the most *** for four years or (2) parents know the right people, or (3) the right combo of both.

Damn, for the valedictorian to make that low is 17ing terrible. I went to the shittiest little small town school you could imagine and graduated with 23 people. Our valedictorian made a 25. I was the salutatorian, and I made a 29. And I can't imagine any school being worse than mine.

I think that's the whole reason colleges harp on SAT and ACT so much: grades don't mean much in high school, just like in college. maybe they should have a post-college test like the ACT?

This is the case throughout the country. My wife plays in a couple of rec basketball leagues and one is held in an east Nashville high school. They had a sign in the hallway that posted their 'ACT All-stars'....

It was pretty pitiful. I think there were maybe 3 students that scored over 20 in a senior class of well over 200 graduating seniors.

I couldn't agree more!

We had co-valedictorians. One was definitely the brightest and deserved it. The second one was very smart but was not in the top 5 GPA-wise after the 1st 9 weeks of our senior year. I know this because I was good friends with the school counselor and he showed me a quick peak at the standings. Myself and my good friend were neck in neck for salutatorian. We were locked into 2nd and 3rd. We couldn't catch #1 and #4 could not catch us but upon graduation day, the girl in 5th place who took 3 years of home-ec instead of algebra II, gemoetry and advanced math magically blew by both of us even though we both aced everything our senior year.

It <span style="text-decoration:underline">was</span> a little small town school and it was thirty years ago. The school is doing much, much better now and changed so much that I didn't even recognize it the last time I was there. They pretty much knocked the last state testing out of the park the last I heard and scored one of the highest scores for a school their size in the state.

Back when I went to high school in towns that small they were getting guys ready to work in the local factory, maybe JC, not a university and a lot of people just got passed along.

Our counselor announced the top 10 heading into the final semester. People started talking and it was common knowledge that you had my 34 buddy at first, another girl at second, and the suckass at third. Those three were pretty much neck and neck.

We had an Economics teacher that just ate up the asskissing. She had a 96 in the final grading period and my buddy had a 94.The thing about it is that my buddy had a true 94, and the kiss *** had a 92, but did some after school filing for the teacher that raised her to a 96. I was one of many that let that teacher know what I thought of it. Unfortunately, we had a one-year interim principal that did not have the sack to make anything happen.

I got a slap on the wrist for letting it be known that it was ******** (several of us did). What made it worse is that the interim principal sat there and said "Yeah I know its ********." But you know what, the only guy that it really affected never said a word. He graduated, took his full ride to Auburn, and went on his way.

We used to check out those boards - Student of the Month holds a B/C average, etc

Wasn't it Lanier a few years back that could not have a Mr. Lanier because one of the requirements was a 2.5 GPA, and no male senior had it?

Our principal was behind all of the shenanigans at my school. He was about to be indicted on embezzlement charges and knew that myself and my friend in competition for salutatorian were going to testify against him. Also the undeserving co-valedictorian had 5 siblings that were in school or had graduated from there and their mother was in tight with the principal. The principal resigned the next year but not before telling One Particular Harbor's (who was a year behind me) class that our class was the worst one to ever come through that school. Lets see, out of 32 in my class, 7 won the Presidential Academic Fitness Award. The largest school in the county with over 100 graduates only had 3 nominated and no winners. We also had 4 Eagle Scouts and I think 8 out of the 32 at least got partial rides to JUCO if not better. That includes the full ride basketball scholarship our deserving valedictorian got to Alcorn. The principal died a year or two after he retired. Karma is a *****.
