Just talked about the Fenwick / PN situation for about five minutes. Golic's take was living with what the ref calls on the field. Coming back to talk more about it after the commercial break.

Spent another ten to fifteen minutes on it. Golic further said he would live with the decision but not with much conviction. Trevor Matich, as guest, said he could see both teams' opinions. Greenberg asked if PN should step aside, but didn't give an opinion on it, to which Golic said no they should not. Matich said it was a chance for PN to do the right thing and step aside and further said that b/c it was NOT a judgment call that the court should overturn the outcome; that the game was over. Bottom line is it was a total of 15 to 20 minutes that mirrored the very differing opinions on this board. Interesting that it got that much attention on a national sports' program this morning. Sure they will cover the outcome in the future.

This would have reached National coverage for a positive reason had Plainfield North done the right and simple process. Turning over the "victory" to the rightfull owner. Now all three teams face the dirt and mess of the situation. Of course the IHSA allowed this as well and are the primary culprit.

Stop just stop! This isn't Plainfields job to "do the right thing." Furthermore even if they chose to do so, no way in this planet or any other would the IHSA allow for it.

This isn't a Plainfield issue. Stop trying to make it one.

Please stop trying to take the "moral high ground."

There is no way for anyone to say what they would do unless they were actually faced with this situation. To say, woulda, coulda, shoula is silly.

It is apparent that PN is going to Champaign, pending the outcome this morning. Maybe the PN coach could have made a statement right after the game that went something like..."we are abiding by the decisions made on the field...if that decision is, for some reason, reversed, we will also abide by that." I think that would have put some fires out. But I am not in that situation, so I can't say.

There is not a team in the state of Illinois that would of "done the right thing" I guarantee it was justified in the minds of the PN coaches since they felt they were screwed on multiple calls that cost them the game throughout.

Just spent another five minutes on it and are apparently getting a ton of tweets on it. This time both M&M agree that turning it over would be the "right" thing to do, BUT that it would open up a pandora's box going forward and therefore they feel the judge will simply take the position that the rules are the rules of the IHSA and that everyone needs to abide by them whether they are good rules or not. 60 Minutes to have a session on it next....

The fact is that these are the clear-cut rules as documented in the NFHS Football Rules Book. This is a rule book adopted by more than 17,000 high schools nationwide that are members of the NFHS.

Rule 1 The Game, Field, Players and Equipment
SECTION 1 THE GAME

ART. 11 . . . Protests of NFHS rules are not recognized.

I know the MS case 2008 where game was reversed very similar situation will be introduced. Will that show Precedence? Is that same organization? Where is Lester Munson and Roger Cossack

So if someone drops a wallet with hundreds of dollars right in front of you its okay to keep it even though you know clearly its not yours and whose it is? Ever heard of sportsmanship??? Hasn't the IHSA preached it for years in their commercials???

Is this a protest of the rule? I think not. Fenwick is not suggesting that the rule is wrong. Rather, I think they will be suggesting that the rule wasn't followed. I'm no lawyer, but I think Fenwick's protest is that the IHSA, through their duly authorized officials who they are backing 100%, suspended its own rules when they awarded an untimed down after time had expired. Therefore, anything that happened after time legally expired should be deemed against their own rules and should be nullified. The team that was ahead in the score at the end of the legally concluded game should be the team that plays in the championship game.

This is a perfect opportunity for BO to lay down his legacy and step in. A 3-way beer summit serving Not Your Father's Root Beer and California Coolers, Joe Biden signed participation trophies and Michelle handcrafted safety pins for the entire student body.

Do you really really think the IHSA would allow them to?

No, which is why if I'm PN I offer cause it makes them look good and makes the IHSA look even worse when they wont allow it ;)

My point is why should this be Plainfields job to correct an IHSA wrong? The do the right thing narrative is an easy fall back.

I can't drop this at the feet of Plainfield to decide the fate I this case.

I'll preface this with I have no horse in the PH vs Fenwick game or outcome but has anyone thought of this before:

Is it likely possible that Fenwick had no idea of the rules or issue with the rules until after the game had ended in OT?

I ask this because why did they agree to OT?, why was there no protest at the end of regulation?, why did the send the players out on the field for OT?

Coaches at Fenwick could have pulled their players and protested OT on the spot and had the ref call the IHSA to rule. Having let it go to OT and complete the entire OT session leads me to believe Fenwick wasn't aware of the rules as most of us likely aren't as well.

*Instead of throwing the ball in the air Fenwick could have easily run the clock out or taken a safety.

If you pull your players off the field, you forfeit.
Who exactly would you call at the IHSA at 10PM?

I wasn't aware that everyone at the IHSA went to bed at 10pm while state semifinal games were being played. And you can hold your players on the sideline and allow the refs more time to make the correct call.

Facing a fourth down at the Friars' own 15-yard line, Nudo instructed quarterback Jacob Keller to drop back and throw the ball deep to kill the final four seconds of what the Illinois High School Association said hours later should have been a 10-7 Fenwick victory.

You can't take a knee in the Arena League, so the safest thing to do was have the quarterback drop back and throw the ball deep without any duress on him so it's not intentional grounding," Nudo said Sunday.

So when I walked off the field I thought it was a rule I didn't know about. I left thinking I blew the game for the kids."

Good find badfrog68. I had not seen this before but it makes the point that even the coach(s) on both sides didn't know the rules.
