Maybe that's what I am saying. We need to be able to run the ball when we need too. Not we should run every play.

This team looked good to me when we played physical. Meaning starting the game establishing the run.

In the 90's. I don't think we had the defense we needed to beat Miami and FSU more so than our offense. They stuffed us in 1994 as well. But we had a defense that was able to stuff them. And give us time for our offense line to wear them down. The performance of that D in 1994 against Miami was incredible after their last score.

I like the passing aspect of our offense. I just would rather be 55 to 45% ratio. if they are selling out to stop the run. Have the ability to beat them with the pass.

TBH I have no problem with our offense. Just would like to use the QB run more often.

But I do realize until we have a top notch D. We can't rely on the run the majority of the time. Every offense will struggle at times .

Great response post @HTO

And I think this staff is smart enough to know we need to run the ball when we need to run it but both coaches and fans also need to be smart enough to know that for MOST teams being able to run and pass well with good effective balance is the biggest key. You aren't typically going to beat Ohio State Bama or even Michigan soon by running it 70-80% or even 2-1 run pass ratios. What gives top teams the most trouble is a team who does both well and at least a good defense too and mobile QBs can help too

I'd like for fans to go back to 1995 season and look at the team who played us the closest. Wash St at NU. 35-21 and they held the ball the most of any team that year I believe with Great run pass balance and many more of our opponents are effectively balanced today vs 1995. KU was too run heavy although rated most other teams too pass heavy. CU Miami in 1994 95 and Florida in 1995 in no way had the kind of size and physicality that Bama LSU Ohio state have had lately to go along with their speed or urban Meyers Florida teams

These teams are genuinely way more balanced than NU was in 90s ad more than people think. Most of the reason they get to a 2-1 run pass ratio in most wins is because they are running heavy later in game with lead but Bama especially had been more like 55-45 run pass when game is still in doubt in most big games meanwhile Ohio st only loss last year was horrible one dimensional conservative play call in bad weather and LSU way too conservative to outdo their recruiting or even match their recruiting. Which teams give the top teams the most problems on D it almost is never the heavy run teams who can't at least avg 230'if not 250 plus passing a game

If people think getting back to only passing 150 or even 180 per game is a good recipe vs top defenses that's a mistake. Big 10 especially is feared to stop run first commons sense people. You better have a good pass first run 2nd QB to go along with a good run game today to get it done

********. 9 or 10 was fine. Getting his *** embarassed by average teams, and trashing the program, fans, and state was not. Convenient how you pride-less bloners always forget that part.
So then, your just happy to have a "nice guy" on the sidelines and as long as he doesn't make mean faces, yell at players, and plays nice with the media, you'd be happy with 10 wins every 4th year, and around a .600 overall winning percentage? OK, that's fine. As I stated, just trying to nail this thing down. So, in your opinion, when does HCMR & staff take responsibility for their program cuz reading this board, Riley's first season is BO's fault?

Stop bringing up Bo the victim!!! It's all you Riley backers ever do!!! How you guys get off supporting the coach at Nebraska after a single year is just stupid!!!! Fire everyone!!!!

Is that better? Give you a warm fuzzy feeling and longing for the days of a pathetic excuse for a human at the head of the program?

And your a Pelini Detractor and Riley Apologist who can't seem to discuss anything without attacking the messenger.

you're detractor apologist

There isn't a topic I won't discuss, regardless how far up Peelini's *** you are. On the other hand, you can't handle reality so there's no reason to discuss anything with you, it's wasted time, so I'll just stick to laughing at and mocking you.

I think Riley supporters/BO Detractors should follow that advice. If you could stick with discussing the current Head Coaches team, I think the board would be better off. Instead, at almost every opportunity, every bad thing that happened this year is attributed to that HORRIBLE Pelini. So, all I want to know is when does Mike get to take responsibility for his team, cus obviously, this year was BO's fault.

There you go with the name calling again. If you could just stay on point, the board would be better served. I understand it's easier to try to discredit the messenger than discuss the real issues. And the question remains unanswered.

WHEN DOES HCMR take responsibility for his program? Year 2, 3, 4 or 5?

This thread is awesome. Aren't we supposed to leave poor Blo-rittany alone? Once again the blotards drag him in.
My posting started in response to a previous post by 73Husker who contrasted Riley with Pelini.
Having trouble pasting on my Android but it's forever etched into message board history that I didn't bring BO into this conversation. In fact, it's usually the Riley apologists who try to justify this season's shortcomings by blaming the previous coach, whose been gone a while now.

Without going over each and every post in this thread, ID be willing to bet that previous BO references exist.

BO's gone. Mikes team looked GREAT in the bowl game. I'm hopeful, as I always am, for the upcoming season.

And when does Meo stop changing this thread from does Mike Riley care to one about when he should take responsibility? This thread is about whether Riley cares or not, which he clearly does. Start a new thread. Quit hijacking this one.

You are the dipshit that brought Pelini into this. Good gravy you are freaking dense.

Year 8. Just like when you clowns blamed Callahan/fans/administration/officialls/ghosts/leprechauns/unicorns during the previous tenures 7 years.
