The gauntlet has been thrown down. The pass happy folks have approximately 2.5 years to produce a top 5 team or we banish pass happy for another 5 decades.

make whatever adjustments you see fit, you have our full support during the appointed time.
at that juncture the state of the program will be completely addressed.

consider this a wake-up call.

I think the wake up call came when Eichorst got canned.

No he doesn’t. He maybe...maybe gets next year. And even if he does, with that schedule the best we can hope for is what...win 8 games?

folks, we are not, repeat, are not going down the pass happy road again. let this ring thru the most costly skyboxes!
It will either stand or fall on it own merit, but we shall give it the proper time to show it's fruits. and support.
If in 2.5 years, the past happy folks have not performed at a high level.
we are returning to the run and the pass happy folks will be silenced for generations.

but we must deal fairly, and squarely.

With a new AD coming in this won't happen. Nobody ties their job future to a career 500 coach.

if you fire riley now, the pass happy crowd will survive and infect husker football for generations.

No!....we wait and let the pass happy mentality produce or be cast away.
Im all for terry bradshaw, joe montana, jerry rice, swain, duper, and claton heading to lincoln to prove me wrong.
so Im giving it 2.5 more years...
wisconson has not been infected with pass happy fan, thats why they ran it straight down our neck in the third quarter.
so be patience and lets try to do this right.

remember 1980's k-state fired their coach every 5 years. lets not become that.

the problem as I see it was solich was more interested in women then taking care of the big red machine.
callahan was pass happy but we fired him real quick and let the sky box pass happy fan fester in the program.
then we hired physco bo, (an ohio state graduate) sigh...
now we are on to pass happy riley. I suggest we give the proper time to educate pass happy fan, one way or the other.

if it works great, if it doesn't we go back to pre solich Nebraska football.

if these hires every '5 years' had produced on higher level, maybe they'd still be here and we'd be resting on laurels. they didn't and weve been left with an inferior product and id say they all have jobs where they probably belong.

they all made a piles of cash and still have jobs.

we should all be so lucky.

well I live in omaha, and was told by a lot of fans running the ball won't work anymore.
and this was right after Dr.Tom won 3 NC's in 4 years!
these are the same fans who called NU football 3 yards and a cloud of dust. and that Dr.Tom just had choir boys. they are the kinda fan sporting a ND, 0u, or miami jacket if we lose to them the following year... thats the micro evolution of pass happy fan history.
Im also considering bringing astro turf back, sure turf toe is a problem, but I noticed NU players getting more spoiled and weaker since we got rid of it and the run.
I looked at wisconson players and they looked they were strong, like their linebackers...our linebackers just know how to run into a pile and let their rb go around.

when you have the run as a center point, in developed strength thru your whole team.
it bring about a strengh and mental toughness that pass happy doesn't bring.

But but he hired a nice guy.
Which at the time was maybe what we needed to bridge us to something better. I am thankful to SE for canning BP. I am thankful for Riley taking the job when it sounds like several other guys wouldn't according to Tuco. Personally, I'm waiting for the entire season to play out before I worry about who our coach is going to be next year.

We haven't been a relevant running team in twelve years so why do you think walkon running backs and O lineman will get that done.

You take a 9 win team to 6 or a 6 win team to 3, your seats gonna get hot. Rightly so.
That's fine. Just saying whether the new AD keeps Riley or not, he's basically going to be given 3 years if the football team isn't performing well enough.

Depends. This is a (relatively speaking) extremely patient fan base. We have had one coach since Devaney given 3 years or less.

That same fan base knows bad football when it sees it.

I think we're becoming less and less patient. Not saying that's right or wrong, just the way it is.

Two losing seasons in three years......damn straight, fire him!
Didn't realize this season was over yet. Riley could go 7-6 and you'd want him fired. Which is fine, but then your argument of "2 losing seasons in 3 years" holds no weight.

Well redwine65, I gave you a like on every one of your posts. I can only imagine the extent that passing dominates practice. We're talking total reps, film discussion, technique drills, what the coaches stress, etc.

Teams don't have to sell out against our run game. Yes, they continue with their run defense, but they don't have to worry that NU will march it down the field. Why, because we are pass first in games where the outcome hasn't been decided, we will pass it. We are pass first when we're behind. Games like Illinois are a rare breed that we would rely heavily on the run, but only after a comfortable lead.

People say that we need to get this "tradition" out of our system. I don't care much either way on this. But, we do need to completely and forever remove the idea that we can win throwing the ball half the time.

Your preseason prediction isn't aging well when you're just hoping for 7-6 after just 3 conference games.
I'd be very disappointed with a 7-6 record.

Please read my entire post and you'll see why I threw out the record of 7-6
