Getting Billy Devaney is probably the biggest hire of the B1G. And Charlie McBride gave John Parrella a huge thumbs up. John's hire is a ringing endorsement for the future under Riley. Then he went out and got a NFL GM! And people thought he was just here to collect a check till retirement???RollingLaugh

"Guess it depends on your definition of "big." Time will tell if that refects a better product on the field.

I guess your idea of big hires is Jr high tennis coaches along with whatever John Papoopchis was doing besides intimidating Husker fans at luncheons.

With some of you there is really only one way to see things. Why don't you chill out? Heaven forbid someone says, "these guys are untested - let's wait and see how they do before we declare victory."

That hardly equates to, "I want the Pelini staff back." There IS a gray area, RedRover, and most of the world operates in it.

It just gets old some of you guys hating on every single hire, its a two way door. We don't need to hang the coaches before they even get a shot either.

I just find it interesting how some posters will insist that any positive news be toned down or analysed in the negative sense. While trouble no matter how slight is lauded over again and again.

Red, I generally enjoy your thoughts, but you went from zero to 60 pretty quick there....

Clearly he is more qualified for that job than any staff or coaches hired in the Pelini era. A good hire by Riley if he ends up being the right fit at Nebraska. Experience wise - nailed it.

This isn't a glass half-full vs. glass half-empty discussion. I think whoever that previous poster was who said to take it easy, and HOPE that these coaches work out greatly for the Husker program is the most logical response. You don't know a thing about how this new coach and staff member will do at Nebraska. I mean, it's great that there are changes going down, albeit, the Parella hire was more of a response and replacement than a preemptive move.

You criticize posters for taking a "wait and see approach," which is to say: we don't know a thing about these two new staff members. Yet, you also accuse said posters of being negative? You violate the same metric utilized in your assertion of some posters being negative nancies. You can either be 100% in support of the hire, or you are 0% in support of the hire and this staff - I get it.

But once again, that's not how **** works in life nor college football, no matter how much this board is attempting to make everything either black or white. Is temperance not a thing any more? When a change is made within the staff, does one really have to say "f--- yeah!; Huskers roll," or is he or she practicing temperance and skeptical and waiting to see results --- just a poster who is simply a hater that wants the Pelini crew back?

Jesus.

I hate repeating myself over and over in multiple threads. I have a huge problem with people that only exercise caution and restraint when it's good news for Riley and the team. But will grab the pitchforks at the first sign of problems. They hide behind so called moderation till the opportunity to strike presents itself. This past years game threads more then bore this out.

I love the hires, but saying Riley went out and got an NFL GM is embellishing a little. Devaney is a former GM who got fired because the Rams only won 10 games in 3 years under his watch. He was currently a scout for the Falcons. But I do think it is a good hire for the position he will have here.

Curious how many other Power5 schools have former NFL talent evaluators/GMs/personnel directors on staff.

Doesn't take much to get your panties in a wad does it? Of course you and salts take my question of the word "big" and imply that I and everyone else who are exercising a degree of temperance are haters of some kind who don't agree with you. I like the hires personally but I reserve the word "big" and especially when compared to the entire conference. So since you made the comparison for us and declared it to be "big" then it must be and we should not question that?!

It must be my age and past experiences because I look at all of the pieces coming together to make the whole better and the results must reflect the quality and production of the pieces in an organization. To further illustrate my point - what is your qualifier for a "big hire"? I guess you declared it and that is it? When I hired coaches I was excited about the prospects because I was selective on the kind of person I wanted around kids. While excited about them, there still has to be a time of proving. Anointing them as something they may or may not be seems foolish. I guess to not buy in to your statement 100% on day one makes me somewhat less than a supportive fan.

You absolutely love repeating yourself. And you are a hypocrite. Unfortunately, you're so polarized that you don't even see it. Not that you have the mental capacity to see it, but if you did, you still wouldn't see it. You are a colossal dolt. And should be banned from expressing your opinion on the internet.

Fortunately, anywhere outside of the internet, people laugh and point at you. You're the town moron. Hence, you come here because, for some reason, people respect what you post. It's completely messed up, because every idiot has access to the internet and a keyboard - even if you and they have to chicken pick each key when "typing."

TRUMP 2018. lol

I love this offseason too and what Riley has done and said is promising. You have every right to be excited. But please stop rooster crowing all the time as you seem to have been a kiss of death in the past....

Rooster crowing???
Kiss of death???
I don't even know how to respond to this.
The only thing that decides the outcome of games is preparation and execution of the coaches and players. Moreover, this thread is about the hiring of Billy Devaney and John Parrella. Let's stay on topic!
