When I saw the thread title, I just knew that there would be posters crapping on your sunshine. A few didn't disappoint. Keep it up Rover. Nothing wrong with keeping a positive outlook.

Honestly, nothing wrong with a negative outlook right now, either. Both are okay at this point....unfortunately

Who wants to put it down right here on this board on record that you think Mike Riley will bring B1G or national championships to Nebraska before the end of his career here.
No "if, if if"...simply a "yes". Go:

I almost bit on that, almost. Theres no way to tell, our first season isn't even threw yet. This staff has a ton of work ahead of them, the previous staff did them no favors and there are some fans that aren't doing there part either. These guys truly have an up hill battle ahead of them, that i know for sure. Im not guessing on nothing till i see how season 2 looks at the very earliest, if not season 3. Then I'll give you my guess on Big 10 titles or National Championship.

It's a lot easier under present circumstances to say no rather than yes. But I will say yes, given enough time. Just don't know if he will have enough time.

I know you don't want ifs, but that's the best that I can do.

Honestly, I would give him another full year next year. I'd like to think that he could turn it around more by then.

How these final few games play out will play a major role in the off-season. I think we'll win most of these heartbreaking games next year.

I think year two is the biggest indicator of direction but what would we call success at this point? Improvement can be perceived with a better record but would that be positive direction if we're still the same mess of a team that we've been for years now?

What Nebraska needs most is something you can teach any group of players no matter how much or how little talent they have. Nebraska needs to play assignment football first and foremost, without it you're going to crap the bed no matter how much talent you have. There are plenty of examples both ways. Take a bunch of talented players who aren't exactly a good team and they'll play like crap but you take a bunch of scrubs who play mistake free assignment football and they'll go a long way in laying the foundation for success. We certainly don't play that type of football, haven't for quite some time and without it we're on a never ending chase for success.

I want to see that as improvement. It's hard to beat a team that doesn't make a lot of mistakes and with that as a foundation you can get players in to the system that will take it to the heights of success. This season in most cases we lost because we played like crap, not because the other team was simply better or more talented.

Looking at both of your posts timnsun, you are saying that if he will win a title next season. Is that what you meant or am I reading it wrong?

I think that would be a dream come true but not what I am anticipating or expecting. I'm not merely a guy that looks at records alone, but is improvement seen in other areas. I appreciated what Barney said about assignment football. This would be huge. Can these coaches do that? So far the answer seems to be no. If they don't pick up their play in terms of discipline and buy in, Riley's days are numbered.

Edit: I still support these coaches 100%, but I do believe we need to see something we can hang out hat on next year. The X factor for me is POB. If Tommy is Tommy and the same inconsistent guy next year I am hopeful that POB can be a person the coaches can feel good about throwing in there from time to time.

I was a Bo supporter at first and changed after he proved he wasnt the guy and he blew up the TV cameras with his childish outburst. I will support these Huskers until Riley proves he isn't the right guy (which is happening fast). Winning a big game a couple times a year but losing to lesser teams will not work in Lincoln just like winning the little games but getting blown out in the big games didn't work for Pelini. If Riley thinks this record with a couple big wins a year will get it done, he is nuts. I like his personality but some of his coaching decisions are mind boggling. Like when he chooses to pooch kick it when their deepest guys are at the 20. Kick it over there heads and let it go into the end zone like most of the other kicks tonight.

I think his biggest downfall in the future will be not being able to cut ties with friends that aren't getting the defensive job done (or offensive for that matter)

The corners played a lot better today but Sparty make some incredible catches. The Blackshirts stepped up and played a huge role in getting us the W today.

I've read all these exact things after 1 season of BillyC. I'm not saying your right or wrong, I'm a "prove it" kind of guy. Being a great recruiter doesn't mean wins, coaching up average players doesn't equal wins either. Total package makes a winner. I hope and wish for the best but I will take a wait and see attitude with all coaches.

There have been some positives beginning with the bowl game last season. For those of us die-hard Cornhusker fans, we want to believe that the program is trending in the right direction, and that a B1G championship is within reach in the next couple of seasons.

That said, wins and losses will tell us if/when we've arrived.

I just find it interesting that the likes of Keyshawn Johnson and Patrick O'Brien and Tristan Gebbia have more confidence in Mike Riley and the program the some Husker fans??? These young men could of literally gone anywhere but them and their families chose us! Time to get onboard the train @kchu5ker555. And tell the rest they better grab a seat fast.

Why in the world would you dig up a thread from 5+ months ago to post this? Things change, opinions evolve. programs evolve. We are off to a nice start with regard to the quality of our current commits, but look at the team rankings and sheer volume of many of the other power 5s quality recruits. Lots of teams are getting quality commits. Relax, you will neither win any awards, nor be skinned with fish hooks if one of your many proclamations turn out to be right or wrong in the long run.

I have a pretty simple outlook on all of this. Basically, we've sucked since about 2001. Sure, you can debate specific records and can point out a few highs and lows in all of those years. But predominantly we've sucked, especially at any time when it really mattered. I see a few positive vibes from the current staff that allow me to hope for something better. I'm generally kind of a negative person, but I'm enjoying this current staff and program a lot. I'll take it. Looking forward to giving the guy a chance and hoping that we might stop sucking.

Really? 90% huh. Then only recruit those kids that hustle. No strength, size, speed, brains, just hustle. Sometimes I wonder..................................
Ask Parrella to respond to my quote... you'll be surprised what he has to say.

I'm coming to appreciate his hiring in an even greater scale. We all have these moments of weakness where the moment is bigger then ourselves. Look at what our program has gone through? Riley has had more than a few opportunities to fall short of his greatest charged duty. And that's to set an example as a leader of young men. Football and it's successes is a byproduct of that leadership. Good luck coach!

That's like, your opinion man!!
Me, I think he is a nice guy but a mediocre (30-33 last 5 years) HC that does not make cold blooded moves (I.e. Upgrading DC) necessary to achieve greatness that a storied and elite program like NEBRASKA demands-
I hope I'm wrong though
