Not possible. I've been told by many credible sources on this board that Mike Slive has issued an edict that no SEC school can hire another school's head football coach. According to them, all other sports and assistant football coaches are fair game, but the head football coach is untouchable.

Your booster friend is an idiot. Les Miles is the winningest coach in LSU's history that has more than 20 wins. Better than Nick Saban. Even if you throw out his first season.

I agree, but lots of LSU money guys are growing tired of him. They cite lack of QB recruitment/development and failure to make adjustments mid game/season. They also have major penis envy of Alabama and Saban.

Look, I think Miles is a top 5 coach in the country. Yeah, he may do things a little different, but damn if it doesn't work. He is in that 7-10 year window that can be tough on a coach. If you get through it you can be a lifer, but fans are really fickle in that time frame. They always want more.

Wait, so a 10-2 team is unsatisfied with their coach also? I'm starting to think no matter how good you get people are going to always *****.

I don't know if edict is the right term, but we have indeed said that. I'll also continue to say it until a deal happens. If any personality would be willing to buck the system and risk Slive's ire, I would think it would be Jerry Jones, but if Bass is saying this isn't real instead of not commenting, I'm not sure how much credibility to give the report.
This particular situation does bring up an interesting question though: what if the current school is ready to move on? My guess is everyone would stamp it approved and go get some lunch.

Les Miles is like Rick Stansbury with 5 sweet 16's, 3 elite 8's, 1 final four, and a championship ring!

The fact a deal was even offered is proof that you're full of ****. I've said from the beginning that it's never been common for an SEC school to poach another school's coach and all the schools have always been reluctant to do it. But it has happened before and it will happen again. And Mike Slive doesn't have a damn thing to do with it.

I'm with you on this one, Pat....

If UT, AU or any of the Big 6 (and maybe even some of the others) want a (willing) SEC coach, they'll get him.

Slive will STFU, do what he's told, and just work on ways to increase revenue...

They should snatch up Dykes before someone else does.

He's a bright mind on offense and knows Texas and Louisiana recruiting. If they are chasing pipe dreams, they are wasting time.

Nope. There's always going to be a wild card out there. McVay at the Outback Bowl will assuredly buck Slive again at some point in the future. In this case, if it has actually been offered, it's international powerhouse Jerry Jones. It happens, but there are consequences for the schools. If it's real, they follow through, and LSU isn't okay with it, Fayetteville won't want to look to the SEC office for help with anything.
