We shouldn't take anything off the table...nor should we draw lines in the sand and not be prepared to act if the line is crossed.

Be interesting to see how Trump handles a situation where he must deploy troops to fight a war when he got a deferment for Vietnam. Irony.......or hypocrisy? ;)

We won't "go to War" v N. Korea. We will isolate and destabilize their leadership, then degrade and demoralize their force's ability and/or willingness to fight.

If hostilities erupt, they will quickly and easily be disarmed.

Now that China is irritated by the N. Koreans, I'd favor a joint effort to split the north into 2 sides. One 1/4 can be retained by China (as a buffer against US and South Korean forces). The other 3/4 by South Korea.

The N. Korean's aren't laughing at the military assets we are deploying on the peninsula moe. They can see what they'd be up against if they decide to get stupid.

If we r willing to destroy North Korean it would end very quickly. Must require the use of nukes

If the "highway of death" on the Iraqi retreat out of Kuwait back to Baghdad was like a Turkey shoot for us Airport, when/if we open up on the N. Koreans it'll be like scooping Guppies out of a small fishbowl with a big *** net!

Not quite true. If a shooting war happens, it's fully anticipated the North could almost drive the length of the peninsula before being stopped.

These dumbasses watch too many movies. My cousin, who is a SF Colonel in the Army had a company command in S. Korea about 20 years ago. He said that our forces in S. Korea would be nothing more than a speed bump in stopping an all our invasion from N. Korea. Seoul is what, less than an hour's drive from the DMZ? It would be a catastrophe of epic proportions if Trumplethinskin, in his ignorance of foreign affairs and reality, launched some crazy pre-emotive action against N. Korea. They would without question attack the South plus they'd probably attack Japan and launch missiles at AK and HI. These people are reckless-they being our new government.

I'm not opposed to the saber rattling back in their direction. That culture respects strength. I've spoken to several of my friends and I'll be honest, they are damn happy THAAD got put in place. Make no mistake, those two countries are still at war, they just aren't shooting at present. Going to the DMZ was an eye opening experience. It was liked that scene in Bridge of Spies at the end on the bridge. Just meat shields on both sides waiting to destroy each other.

Many would die, but in the end, the North would succumb to hunger and starvation. The phrase bandied about was "Hunger on a biblical scale". The first couple of months would be a **** show though.

DvlDog4WVU my brother was in special tactical operations for the USMC as a site planner and asset evaluations officer... and as a result he spent quite a bit of time on that DMZ looking at our force structure over there. He's told me the day we need to start worrying about an Army that can't reliably feed or adequately supply it's own troops is not one that could really place our allied S. Korean forces in any type of long term trouble.

He said our Military planners are not worried about breaking supply lines to N.Korean troops if they ever were dumb enough to invade the South. He says it would be like gutting a Fish.

We already have a pretty good idea what their plan of attack would be, and we have thoroughly developed our contingencies to handle it.

Republicans wanting another war. Imagine that.

No one wants war, we are trying to make sure a very destabilized situation over there doesn't start one.

Figures the Left is not up to the challenge of some tin horn tyrant threatening to blow up half the world. The Iranian Mullahs...meh... Hafez Assad....hmm...eh....Kim Jong Il.....um--oh...well.... says the Left. Vladimir Putin....How 'bout a "reset"? Communist Chinese.... hey Kung Fu...."wanna buy another Hollywood movie studio"?

Requests to beef up our Armed Forces?

"You War monger!!!!!"

"What about feeding the hungry, the sick, the thirsty, the needy, the naked?" We need more big Bird, not big guns!!!!!!"

"Make Love not War!"

"Make Babies, then of course abort them!"

That was the line of thought in the 1950's - - how did that work out?

I have no problem whatsoever with these kinds of noises directed at the NK'ans by the US.....I also reserve the right to change my mind later on this position.

All it would take is few strategically placed drones or cruise missiles with a small nuclear topped warhead aimed directly at their command and control facility in Pyongyang and it's over. That's a 3rd world country with a small but dangerous nuclear arsenal so the objective to be to remove their capability to launch any of those with any accuracy. The rest of their war fighting capability could be easily overwhelmed because they are so structurally weak.

And what would deter them from retaliation on S. Korea, Japan, et al. We didn't win the conflict there nor did N Korea/China. There is still a standing armistice which could very easily resume without any Declaration of War.

Its kind of a tie, but not really. We beat the DPRK's *** after the landing at Inchon, but we got greedy and pushed north of the Yalu river, which the Chinese didn't appreciate. That's really what pulled them into it, and shear numbers overwhelmed us.

I can agree with that. I worked with a couple of guys, 10 or so years older than myself, who were in that conflict. Said their service there was brutal; very rugged terrain and just brutally cold.

Thanks for that answer. Adding to it, their opppsition (NATO) would have their backs to the Sea. Wouldn't want to be in that position. Another Dunkirk maybe?

On the other hand we could flank them on both sides from the sea.
