Except RU was the one Big Ten team who acquitted themselves pretty well in the tournament the past couple years. Beat Clemson as an underdog. Almost beat Houston (and should have) as an underdog. RU-ND was the game of the tournament last year

it was a major reason if not the biggest reason. How about you finish that game and don’t finish in 9th place and cut it so close?

I don’t follow Penn state. They basically stole our spot is what happened. Did they turn on the jets at some point. I thought they were garbage and lived and died by the three. Essentially we ended the year by losing and them by winning. But we beat them twice. It all sucks.

Where does the Big Ten land in conference standings by metrics? Sagarin has the Big Ten as second best.

Don't think it was MN necessarily. One more win anywhere in the schedule gets us in.

Minny was a big game - but the committee chair didn't mention us along with bad losses, but specifically called us out unprompted in a question about injuries and "player availability". Losing Mag is the only concrete reason given that impacted our selection.

The other leagues have been complaining all year that the Big Ten is overrated and gets too many teams in every year - Compound that with the league performance in the tourney the last few years and the selection committee reacted. So we are officially the Big Ten sacrificial lamb. Sucks.
It mattered, but made it easier to sacrifice us. We are not a blue blood. We have to earn it.

You’re right and it won’t change this year either. Purdue is way overrated and is our best hope. Probably get 2 teams to the sweet 16 and then fizzle from there. Depends on matchups which I didn’t even care to look at though. It sucks because if you put Nevada in the B1G, they would finish below us.

100%. And OSU screw. That's it. Nothing else mattered. Once again, the Trump Test was correct. A feel for the room, not geeking out on data. These guys making the picks aren't MIT mathematicians lol

yeah, how about finish in the top 6 or 7? Why flirt with disaster?
Did you watch the OSU game get stolen from us? Would have been tied for 5th. They reviewed the Minnesota ending for 20 minutes because the screwed us at OSU by running off the court. Ten seconds of a review and that is a win. We would be in without a doubt but should be in anyway. NC st sucks. Clemson beat them 3 times by over 20 pts each time.

I hear you about Mag and agree that’s what the committee said but that’s not why we are not in. Go back and play Simpson the last 8 games like he did in the tournament and we win 4/5 games. Definitely beat Nebraska and MiNN handles. Or just don’t cough up that double didgit lead with a min to go and then we have no bubble and sitting comfortably in. Not the committees fault this one is all on Pike

The Committee chair said we weren’t the same team without MaG , we were 2-6 and we can agree with that but they obviously they didn’t watch the Michigan or Purdue tourney games bc Pike made a lineup change injected Derek into the starting lineup and we beat a bubble team by double digits on a neutral floor and take the # 1 seeded team toe to toe . They didn’t watch. Because anyone that did saw that RU got their swagger back and finally looked like the pre MAG team again an “ NCAA team definitely said Matt Painter .The Committee just failed at their job.
As to the Minnesota loss , it wasn’t that per se It was the 2-6 after Mag injury since they ignored Michigan and Purdue and losing 3 home games in a row to Nebraska , Michigan and Northwestern. They knew something was wrong with Rutgers as we hardly ever lose at the RAC and they lost 3 in a row. That team is struggling. They came into their first meeting on Wednesday with the pre determined viewpoint that we were not an NCAA team any longer and failed to watch the games I. The tourney.
They also violated their own principles about full body of work and focused on last 8 when they have made it clear that games at the end are no different from the middle or beginning. They are fraudsters. Tourney performance is almost irrelevant , look at Texas A and M and Penn State . Seeding hardly moves like it used to. They change the criteria and emphasis every year. It was no road wins and now we have them and they move onto some other reason. Just the ultimate screw job.

Agree with most of this - the explanation they gave made no sense - the reason - they did not want to extend 9 bids to a league that has underperformed. "Equity" decisions always reward the mediocre - Always! .

100% right. Pike stuck with the same guys too long. Total whiff by him. The change to Simpson should have been much sooner

If we beat Minnesota, we would be in, stop saying the opposite. If Arizona St misses their 60 foot prayer against Arizona they are out too. One shot changes the narrative completely.
