You (and the homeward bound guy) took a very general question about the game of basketball and turned it into a giant diatribe about cals offense last year and you want to ask me why I’m being argumentative?

I also didn’t act like anything is ridiculous like you accused me of. I think it’s interesting that we have come full circle. If you can’t handle the discussion then perhaps you should find yourself a nice cozy Cal-hatin’ thread where you can feel safe. By the way, is Mintz returning or not?

you must be a woman. That’s totally fine. I love women
Okay, so what did your post accomplish?

Do you want to have a conversation, or do you just want to hurl insults?

We don't need another Bassfan or Baller.

As far as the insults.....I’m here to talk some ball and talk some **** sometimes. If you can’t stomach talking **** then ignore me.

I don’t know who bass fan and baller is but I’d probably talk **** to them too

Can't wait till next year. Cal is gonna make haters look foolish. An angry Cal is a great Cal. Bring it on.
Next year's Kentucky basketball team will definitely be greatly improved. Next year's team will have some key elements our last team simply lacked. I am not saying we will win the NC, but we will make to the NCAA Tournament and at least the SS if not farther.

I'm up to talking ****, you definitely know that by now I would hope.

Baller and Bass would be your best friend's, until you said anything about Cal that isn't incredibly positive.

Heck, I don't know what the popular opinion is anymore.

I think a lot of people see a few things in the works and they badly want to believe that Cal is changing, so quite a few are jumping back on the Cal bandwagon, but I know better. Cal isn’t going to just change his stripes, especially when he can make himself believe Covid was to blame.

He'll do just enough to satisfy the weak ones, but I need to see real results before I believe he truly cares more about UK than the NBA.

One thing is for sure, there were far more UK fans that were on our side of the line after that loss to Mississippi State.

Well first you gotta define what’s meat? We been living off greens lately, and our ribs are showing man. Nothing wrong with greens by the way, I like em.
And that's the thing, sometimes the meat is at one extreme.

Here's an example: Billy Clyde Gillispie. At one time, we were 50/50 on that guy. The meat wasn’t in the middle, it was 100% on the side of "the dreaded haters", and that could be the case here too. Cal could "want" to change and get back to winning, but what if he simply can't overcome his NBA draft boner? You can’t satisfy the boner AND win titles in today’s game, but he's gonna try.

I think you're going to end up being right. I believe he will make some changes, but there are some things he will never change.

But all it will take is a sweet 16 appearance in 21/22 and half this board will he like "see, we told you guys he would change, it's just going to take time… ."

I just know that's coming.

Unfortunately, I think that's probably our ceiling next year. You don't go from 9-16 to serious contenders in one year.

One has nothing to do with the other Ron, that's a hell of a strawman.
Was the meat in the middle in 07/08 and 08/09? No, the ones that saw what was happening were right and that very well could be the case here too.
Do you honestly think Cal is just going to snap his fingers and change what he cares most about? As long as the NBA draft exists, John Calipari will pioritize it. I'm just glad the transfer portal is a thing, that will mask his NBA boner a little.

How do you guys have the energy to constantly:
- support coach and try to convince everyone that he needs to be supported at all costs
- constantly remind everyone you don’t support and try to convince others he sucks and needs to go
Seems like so much work. It is what it is. We don’t decide, we don’t fire or hire. We know your opinions at this point.

It’s called an analogy, Jeff. I have a very busy job, 2 toddlers, and a baby on the way. With the stress and busyness of my life Kentucky basketball is my away from life entertainment, like movies are for some people. I therefore approach the season with a lot of optimism and enthusiasm. I couldn’t imagine approaching my form of entertainment with a negative perspective like you, but that’s fine. I wouldn’t insult you, some people are just half empty which is cool. If BCGs two full seasons were similar to Cals last two full normal seasons (2019 and 2020) I’m sure most would approach it positively. That’s about all your BCG and Cal comparison deserves in terms of a reply, honestly.

But back to you being half empty, like I said that’s cool and I wouldn’t insult someone that’s optimistic headed into next season like you have by calling them weak. If I were to act like you, I would call someone making your comments a huge *****, but I wouldn’t want to insult. 😉

I’ll say this. I have a 6 and 8 year old, loving every second of it.
I also have as busy, demanding, and fulfilling of a career as I’ve ever had. Nothing about any of that makes me have a “positive outlook!” on Kentucky basketball if I just don’t. I’m as “glass half full” of a guy as you’ll ever meet (although I’m sure people here don’t buy that because of the opinions I’ve shared here). It just doesn’t make me go all Pollyanna on my thoughts of Kentucky basketball.

Im not Pollyanna, I’m not rah rah. I was just giving him my perspective of my thoughts. I’ve criticized Cal, but I’m optimistic that he’s wanting to change, and he has been very successful here so that’s a very reasonable approach to take. I’ve been respectful responding to Jeff before. He felt the need to call people that disagree with him “weak”, which is what prompted my response. If he wants to start the childish talk he can expect pushback. I don’t remember you ever insulting me for sharing my views.

Best thing you can do is watch Georgetown during the 1985 season, that's a typical Cal offense.

Then watch how the best teams are playing right now. The court is spread and 3 point shooting is a much bigger focus.

Under Cal, we're typically at the bottom of the rankings when it comes to 3pt attempts and 3pt makes. We have now had two games where we didn't hit a 3 under Cal, that's bad.

Just watch the 2021 national title game for the best example. Yeah, Baylor ran a lot of iso, but they did it right. They made Gonzaga come out and guard the 3, because they proved they were going to burn them if they were left open and they also proved they will rebound their misses.

There's a huge difference. Cal will continue to run offense through the post, no matter the circumstance. That’s fine when you have KAT or Cousins, but when you have Skal, Jackson, Dakari, Richards or Poythress as your primary big man, it doesn't work.

We were down 15 in Rupp to Alabama with 10 minutes left last season, Cal, proving once again that he's hard headed as hell, ran 10 post plays in a row… ..through Jackson that started with Jackson getting the ball 15' from the basket on the baseline. He never scored, turned the ball over most of the time and he picked up 2 offensive fouls in the process. If you think that's a modern offense, I can't help you.

Anyone that tries to turn guys like Skal or Jackson into back-to-the-basket players is stuck in the 80's.
One thing that kills me about not emphasizing the three is that Cal loves to have a guy on his best teams that can go to work one on one when things break down and get a bucket. That’s a whole lot easier to do if defenders can’t help off their man because he’s a 35% or better shooter. And hell, it’s even easier if you don’t have two guys clogging the lane and you’re trying to get to the basket.

I do think we need to have at least three (preferably four) feasible threats from outside on the court at all times.

Ya know I see this analogy all the time. For me, I look at it like this, was the glass full at first or was it empty? If it was full and now is half way, to me it is half empty. If it was empty and started to fill it and stopped half way, it is now half full. All in the starting point.

Understand. For me, I have seen nothing from Cal that shows he can change or even willing to change. Changing a couple of assistants is not changing. I will believe he is changing g when I see him actually coach and play the players best suited to win games regardless of star rating. See some resemblance of an offense, see multiple defenses used depending on situation.

The top from you is what your normal posts are. You’re an extremist. No different from someone saying “no doubt we’re going to the final four next year!!” We’ve been talking about the “meat in the middle”. You’re not anywhere near middle anything. I like to talk to moderates, and no offense it’s why I skip 99% of your posts. You say you want different coaching in your second post. Would you agree it’s easier to run a new and different coaching scheme with a new and different coaching staff? I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Your mind is made up, so it’s all good there really isn’t much for me and you to talk about TBH

Fair enough. I go by what I see or have seen. I don’t buy into the talk and promises. Tubby was going to run more every year too. Did you believe that every year? I respect your views. Your mind seems made up as well. In your mind that makes you right and me wrong? Ok.

Well, hang on, I have been going into every season with extremely high hopes, but eventually reality has to set in. It really started for me in 2018 when duke thumped us by a thousand, then we watched another final 4 go down the drain because we couldn’t hit free throws and our pg kept throwing the ball to the wrong team.

Then Evansville happened, then, once again, we have a mass exodus, because these kids aren't here for UK, which was the first domino that caused the 9-16 debacle that was 20/21.

Yeah, eventually Tom has to realize that he isn't going to catch Jerry. Elmer has to realize he ain't catching Bugs and the Coyote is never going to catch the road runner.

I'm not being negative, I'm facing reality. Cal used to ask us what the definition of Insanity is, well, he should ask himself that.

The irony here is thick.
