Who was the best?

While we have had a few that did well, you all have been more consistent. Who did you like thebest? For some reason, as a rival, the one thatI thought the most of wasDicenzo Miller. For me, he was your Johnny Musso.

David Fair was the best. He was a Bo Jackson that got injured and was never the same again.

Otherwise it was Jerious Norwood whose stats were skewed by playing on the crappiest MSU teams of all time. If he would have played on one of MSU's better teams no doubt he would have been a Heisman candidate.

I would have liked to see Norwood in the spread offense behind last years line. And to me, dicenzo was the most productive slow back that I have ever seen. He obviously had amazing vision to do what he did. And I'm going to give Ballard some love as well. I'm not exactly sure what makes him so good, but he is. And lets not forget Kiefer.

but JJ was nearly unstoppable before his injury. I know he isn't the popular choice because he was somewhat of a flop in the NFL, and there was the steroid issue. JJ ran around people on those sweeps we would run, and when he couldn't run around them, he ran over them. He was the best I've seen at State. I would like to put Norwood in that spot because he is from my hometown, but I think JJ was better. If not for his injury, we had very good chance of beating eventual national champ UT in the SEC championship game.<div id="isChromeWebToolbarDiv" style="display:none"></div><div>
</div><div>David Fair was supposed to be our Herschel Walker, but we can never know how good he really was. He was never healthy for us. And obviously, my memory only goes back to about 1986. I really don't know about the guys before that.</div>

Dicenzo Miller was is my favorite rb of all time. He was fun to watch. If he wasn't injured his senior season, I firmly believe 2001 would've been a different season.

Norwood.<div>
</div><div>The things he did behind that OL are amazing. He's my favorite State athlete ever, stuck with us and gave us everything he had for 4 years despite never being on an even halfway decent team.</div>

Had a much more varied skill set than we often remember (excellent, excellent pass catcher) and of course he was always grindin for his state.

For my money, I'd go with JJ Johnson (combination of strength and size) and Keiffer McGee......Because he played on some bad teams and his career was cut short people don't realize how good he actually was.......He was so smooth and when running it looked almost effortless for him.........Tragic, truly tragic........He would've played on Sundays.........</p>

Keffer was a great, great person, not just a great running back. He was working on his MBA when he drowned. The year before he died, he suffered a knee injury in, I think, the 4th game. Out of the first 3 games, he had over 200 yards rushing in two of them, and a 100+ yard game in the other. For the last 15 years, I would say Keffer is the best. For the previous 15 years before then, going back 30 years, David Fair was the best before he tore up his knee. He was 6-2 225 and ran close to sub-4.4. J.J. Johnson was a David Fair without moves. There have been a lot of great RB's come through MSU:

1943: J.T. "Blondy" Black (UPI All American)
1948: Tom "Shorty" McWilliams (who also played at Army for a year in the same backfield with Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis, both Heisman winners.)
1963: Ode Burrell
1965: Hoyle Granger
1976: Walter Packer (all 175 pounds of him), and FB Clarence Harmon
1979: James Jones (backed up Tony Dorsett for 5 years in Dallas)
1982: Michael Haddix

Then there are those more recent, that most here probably remember. Just thought I would give some recognition for the guys who grinded for MSU earlier.
