I don't know if they hired someone new or what, but MSU has been killing social media as of late. Between Derek and the Auburn guy making legitimate quality videos and what not, I'm really pleased.

ETA: my favorite thing so far is Laster doing a Q&A and one of you asking which is his favorite Steve Winwood song.

Are you talking about their two 30 second videos or something else...

...because in my mind, I've seen nothing to indicate we're anywhere but last in this department. Google around and see what other schools are doing, then report back. I suggest you check out UGA's materials.

While I'll admit

it isn't in first, we def are light years ahead of where we were. Twitter offers a great deal of info.

That doesn't matter. We need to be on par with competitors. This is an area where you can actually excel purely on execution...having the judgment to recognize and hire talented people. Why does our in-state counterpart manage to be well ahead here? It's not a resources issue.

I still don't understand what the positive sentiment is really based on. Two 30 second videos? Maybe I've missed some material...

I think it is based on the 2 30 second videos. Yes, you are correct.

Oh, and the fact that those 2 videos are light years better than what we have ever done.

You like the 30 second videos but those have yet to show you that we can recognize and hire the talented people???

I'm not basing anything on the videos, but they're worth mentioning.

I deal a lot with this stuff, and while I certainly agree that MSU might not be the world's best or even in the top half of the conference, I've certainly seen a difference in now and 6 months ago.

I absolutely can't stand generic twitter accounts. It's why I don't follow the Saints or the a NFL or any professional twitter account other than the USMNT (by far the best sports related social media accounts). I agree it's entirely based on execution, but MSU has done a great job as of late being less boring.

There's room for improvement. But it's obvious to me that it's been moved up in the AD's list of priorities. Would be great to build on that and get a full time guy in the office next year.

ETA: isn't this what Martin was brought in to do?

I'm not sure

om as a whole are masters of telling people what their opinion should be. a tailgate spot with no electricity or grills? turn that into the end-all-be-all of the tailgating world. pretty impressive actually. the grove is fun, but that not what im talking about...its how they sell it. if you listen closely, you always hear the bears telling people what their opinion should be. currently, their focus has been hyping right field into "the best atmosphere in college baseball".

did yall know om had the best weight room, meeting room, parking garage, player cafeteria, recruiting lounge, and soon to be basketball venue in the ncaa? i didnt realize it until i had watched this video:

to many, Bjork said it so it is true. these guys are light years ahead of everyone in the nation, its just that nobody but om fans know it yet. seriously, count how many times he says "best in the nation". many of those arent even best in the division, but lets not let facts get in the way. that mirrored walk of champions looks like it belongs in a childrens museum....its laughable. if the bears attack me for this post, i preemptively declare the nephew defense.

VERY good point. This is what I point out daily. I just keep waiting for people to call them on the BS that they spew but more times than not, the people they are talking to either 1) are too polite to point out the absurdity or 2) really do fall for the sales pitch.

Me being in sales, I see a used car sales pitch from 1000 miles. And, I typically call it for what it is. Ole Miss is the king of used car jargon.

exactly. before anyone has a chance to declare it "meh" or "average at best" they go out and say "we think its the best in the nation" and keep hammering it home. their facilities are average in the sec. i was watching an all access for unc and okie st and was blown away with some of their quality. some schools just have deeper pockets and om is not one of them....neither are we.

oh ****, here comes my uncle. act cool everybody.

(audible "smack")

sorry guys, that crazy nephew of mine. my backspace button is broken, so ignore what you just read.

1) Bjork looks constipated. 2) "real live mannequins"? 3) I think he even said they have the best parking lot in the nation. 4) the goal of the large meeting room is to be able to have large meetings? 5) Have they never heard of wireless mics? Maybe they didn't want any unless it was the best wireless mics in the nation 6) DROP 17ING CEILINGS IN THE WEIGHT ROOM!!!! THOSE 17ERS WILL NEVER WIN WITH THAT!!!

they are trying SO HARD to catch up.

On another note, Kellum looks old-- even with that dyed hair.

To be fair here, they ate our lunch at this for [Sandlot voice] for-ev-er until 2013, really. Even when they were unquestionably the worst SEC team not that long ago, they did it in style and still managed to win the hype war. We could have really capitalized on the 2009 and 2010 seasons but we didn't. I think a combination of Mullen maturing, him hiring people born in the 2nd half of the 20th century as part of his staff, and the SEC Network elevating our media department has bridged the gap between us and everyone else.

Again, I just want to say how happy I am with the direction of our social media accounts and our media department. Might seem "whatever" to you old farts, but it matters to my generation and everyone to follow. Including recruits.

Between that and

our entire athletic dept staff's use of twitter, it really blows me away that someone thinks it sucks.

I guess im one of the old farts on here (early 50's) but I get most if not all my MSU info from Twitter and Facebook follows and I agree its much better, to the point it was getting to be information overload. Stricklin could Tweet something and w/in an hour I had the same message retweeted by every person in the athletic dept and every beat writer out there. I've got 2 kids @ MSU and usually know as much or more than they do about what's going on there. Hint: I havent seen this with the regular Twitter app but w/ Tweetcaster you can go to each person you follow and turn off their retweets, that way you don't get people like Rhett Hobart, Kyle Neblitt, etc sending you every 17in tweet from every person in athletics that you already follow, cuts way down on the clutter.
