North MS has way more cardinals fans than Braves fans. Historically it's been that way but even more so when the Memphis Redbirds came plus we get to watch every Cards games up this way.

^^^^ Agree.
Not as many Braves fans within 100 mile radius of Memphis. Mostly Cards fans.

I wish a city closer to Mississippi like Memphis or New Orleans would get a MLB team. Atlanta is over 6 hours away from Waynesboro, and Turner Field is across town from the Atlanta downtown area in a ghetto neighborhood. The next closest ones are Tampa Bay, Houston, and St. Louis which are a half day's drive to get there.

I say that based on my area. The Golden Triangle area plus I do have several sets of family members in the Memphis, Germantown, Olive Branch area that are all Braves fans.

I agree. My dad is a huge cardinals fan because that was all that was on the radio and maybe tv when he grew up. When I grew up you couldn't go a night without the braves on tbs, so I'm a huge braves fan.

No love for the Cubs? WGN n stuff.

My vote is for the Braves though, to answer your question. TBS + proximity.

Cardinals

Dizzy Dean and Will Clark both wore the Birds on the Bat. It doesn't get any more Mississippi than those two.

That age cutoff is a lot closer to 60 than it is to 40. The Braves have been Mississippi's team since at least 1980.

I'm surprised the Astros and Rangers haven't gotten more traction here in Jackson at times...

Grew up a big time braves fan(was there in 95 and got infield dirt in airplane bottles from when they clinched the World Series)! Still support the Braves -- also support the Royals equally. Baseball people can probably draw the connection as to why...

I grew up listening to Skip and Don calling games. They were one of the best in the business. Still remember Skip's call. Of Sid Bream's slide ahead of Barry roid Bond's throw to win the nlcs.

From NC, but was Braves until they traded the Murph

That pissed me off. Then I quit caring at all after one of the strikes, and now I casually follow the Rangers living in Texas. I was actually a Twins fan for a while back in high school.

Same for me. I turned anti-Braves once they traded Dale.

After it became clear that McGuire, Sosa and Bonds were all hopped up on the Q I kinda stopped really following baseball very closely. However, I've always had a soft spot for the Orioles and Cubs and whichever teams have former Dogs on 'em.

I'd say this is an accurate map representing the fans for each team.

No doubt the Cards.

There are more Cardinals fans in Memphis because Memphis has the AAA affiliate of the Cardinals, the Redbirds.
This is true now as well as 35+ years ago. Long before the Redbirds. Unless the Memphis Chicks were affiliated with the STL Cards.

central and south mississippi are heavy in braves country. im from jackson and there has always been a big braves contingent, even before the mississippi braves, largely attributed to the braves always being on tbs through their glory years in the 90's. southaven and parts of north ms seem to be cards and braves mixed, maybe even a slight cards lean. those are my perceptions anyway.

Cardinals...all the way since day one and until the last day

Yep. Cards have always been first and foremost due to games being broadcast on WTUP and due to being the furthest team West for a long time. Braves grew a massive bandwagon following during the glory years but I wouldn't consider them "Mississippi's team". Of course most Mississippian's don't seem to give a rip about college baseball anyway.

I have a really hard time believing that Florida's fanbase extends that far north. I also don't think Pittsburgh's fanbase extends that far south.

Growing up in Gulfport I didn't have a team because the Zephyrs were changing affiliation every season and the Braves weren't all that great so I became a Rays fan... then they became good and everyone called me a bandwagon fan so I went back to the Braves because I moved to Starkville and there was always someone going to Atlanta for a series. I too didn't realize there were a ton of Cardinals fans in Mississippi until I got there. Everyone from Memphis.

Only for northwest Mississippi. The rest of the state belongs to the Braves.

Older folks grew up with 3 tv channels, all reruns in summer. Cardinals were

Live on radio. Hard to imagine tv without cable, without braves. Definitely a generational thing

I'd say 80/20 Braves. I've always wondered why Texas doesn't get more pull in MS. I tend to pull for them and Atl.

I grew up like everyone else with braves and cubs on tv every night, so as a kid those were my teams. Braves were good and cubs had palmeiro. After I was about 15 or so, there was a lot of other stuff going on so I didn't follow the braves and cubs like I did from 8-15. Also I never really liked chipper (blasphemy I know), so when he became the face of the franchise it kinda turned me off. Turned out he was a white trash philander baby daddy, so I'm ok with my choice to dislike him. Moved to DC in 2008 and started going to nats games (only went to 1 braves game), so I'd consider myself a nats fan now even though I've since moved from DC.
