I assume that he's being encouraged by the Republican establishment to jump into the fray. I'm not sure when it's too late administratively or politically to throw one's hat into the race (again) or try some end run at the national convention.

I don't see how, in a race that has soooo much anger towards DC and political elite, bashing the outsider will accomplish anything.

I think if Trump wins 3 of 4 or sweeps this Saturday (80% chance in LA/ME and 70% in KY/KS) it would decimate the Establishment's attack plans.

The establishment's plan is to get it to brokered convention, and get the delegates to hijack the popular vote. For that, they have to keep Trump under 50% of delegate count.

Also, if they do this and succeed, people will leave the GOP in droves.

I used to think the TP/libertarian types would be the ones to splinter off at some point, but this is something entirely different.

Libertarians are looking at Trump and Clinton and Face-palming our country.

Exactly right. One problem the GOP has is a rule they added in 2012 that requires at least 8 state victories to be eligible for the nomination. I think Cruz is at 4, Rubio is at 1. Kasich may be at 1 or more after Ohio on 15 March.

Cruz and Kasich have the best chances from here on out to reach those numbers, especially after Rubio's meltdown on Tuesday. If Mitt joined today there's still no chance he gets to 8.
