In light of Bobby Bonilla's well negotiated contract that seems to pay him for infinity, it seems other former mlb players took notice and struck similar deals.

Chris Davis hasn't played for the Orioles since 20' but will have the second highest salary on their payroll this year at over $9 million. The Orioles still owe him $59 million. He will make almost $2 million more than Adam Frazier

Ken Griffey Jr. will have the 3rd highest salary on the Reds payroll this year at $3.6 million.

It's nice work if you can get it.

MLB P0NZ1 SKEEM. FANS WILL END UP FLIPPIN THE BILL
I mean... the Mets' deal with Bobby Bonilla really is part of a Ponzi scheme.

They were getting such a return on their account with Bernie Madoff that it made financial sense for them to spread his contract over 25 years, thinking that they would continue getting more out of that account than what they would end up paying Bobby Bonilla.

Not quite the same thing but I think Allen Iverson took an annuity for a big chunk of his shoe sponsorship money from Reebok. Somebody saw the writing on the wall and made sure they weren't going to have a brand ambassador selling autographs to pay rent. Got a certain amount of money every year for life and then $20 or $30M as a deferred payment at 50 or something.
