Did something right. GM canned for letting both Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones walk while leaving KOC no option but to start Mc Carthy. FIRE YOUR GM FIRST before you even think about firing a good coach. McCarthy was the GM’s draft pick and he doubled down on him. Hire a VP of player personnel as your GM from the Browns? Get Browns level QB decisions. He’s a moron.

I'd be shocked if Kevin O'Connell didn't have a pretty big say in who his QB was this year.

GM probably wasn't great but also feels like a sacrificial lamb

Ownership knows who made the QB decisions and they just fired that guy. KOC followed the organization’s messaging when they drafted McCarthy but at that point he had little choice.

Should have listened to those thousands of Vikings fans who wanted to re-sign Darnold after last season.

</end sarcasm font>
I had posted multiple times that they needed to keep Darnold or Jones. McCarthy may eventually be just ok, but it’s not going to be this year.

How would you like to be JJ McCarthy right now? Setring aside the financials... dude's gotta feel like kind of a dweeb. He sucked, and the guy who they let walk in favor of you is in the SB, and the GM who made the franchise choose you, got axxed.
No one cares how he feels. He can work out and study more film. The NFL is a man’s game and if he’s not cut out for it, we have some nice parting gifts.

I don't believe that ownership sat idly by while the GM veto'd their hotshot coach on 3 different QBs (Darnold, Jones, Rodgers).

Great HC's are scarce in this league, and ownership would rather give KOC a mulligan on this and signal "we're bringing in another adult for next time you try this" than they would fire him and lose what they feel is an asset in him.

McCarthy is a practice demon, but terrible in-game. Was a miscalculation and arrogance on KOC's part to think otherwise.

Well the Ownership just fired the GM . So they must have felt he was responsible.

Anymore talk about them trading for Jo Burrow?
Internet “journalists” bring it up. I think it’s ludicrous to think that the Bengals would trade Burrow. I think the Vikes are stuck with McCsrthy unless they could find a willing trade partner for a guy who has under performed elsewhere similarly to Darnold and Jones. I’ve heard KOC actually likes Wentz better than McCarthy. 🤷‍♂️

Exactly. KOC’s frustration with McCarthy has seemed evident to me in his interviews from early on. KOC was the guy who got The GM to bring in Darnold early and then Jones late in 24.

And Titans ownership fired Mike Vrabel two years before he walked to a Super Bowl with the Patriots.

Vikings felt he was expendable, cuz he was a DEI hire who drafted poorly.

That doesn't exonerate KOC for assembling the QB depth chart like a dumbass.

Jones turned down a bigger contract from Minnesota because he felt he had no chance at starting.

This was pretty widely reported, weird I know more about your team than you do.

I know Minnesota fans think KOC is some infallible genius, but it's okay to admit he was wrong on JJ McCarthy.

I don’t believe he would have picked an unproven passer to be his QB1. KOC is guilty of being a company man

I'm sure from KOC's POV, Darnold was unproven, damaged goods before he got to Minnesota.

I'll be interested to see if they stay at the bottom of the division, probably only get one more year like that before he's job hunting

I am SURE that in KOC’s point of view, he saw a guy who has first round talent with multiple years of NFL experience and who could win with the right coaches and system. That was my view of Daniel Jones as well. Extremely talented guy who was playing for a crappy organization.

Obviously.

That was one thing he did exceptionally poorly.

That's fine. Nobody knows for certain. Would be pretty odd if the HC doesn't get any say. Unheard of, even.
