I just need to know what the roles of the assistants are so I can know who to be disappointed in when we screen ourselves or break down defensively.

Nice, I hinted at this a few days ago. They had a few targets that were all former NBA players that they were looking at.
More name recognition than his previous hires. Just feel we're not winning any portal/recruiting battles but moreso attempting to find diamonds in the rough approach. I hope Mo Williams can help change that we need elite players regardless.

Do you think a big time point guard is coming to Kentucky now????? This sums up our fate with his son as the point guard. Atleast we beat out Jackson State for his son.

Cannot judge this hire until at least after recruiting season. Wonder if he had any recruits at Jackson St for the class?

Sounds like a good hire. Although it’s usually a delicate situation when there’s a coach/parent combo. Who wants to compete for minutes with a coach’s kid?

The question is, did Pope have to agree to this package deal to get a single player to sign up?
I dont love this. Dont love this package deal with a recruit who might be here for a year, with his dad coaching who might also only be here for a year if Pope gets fired. We are either getting a coach who isnt good enough on merits, or a player who isnt. I bet one seems to be carrying the other.

Not really, but being a head coach is a lot different than being an assistant.
Hopefully we didn't need to give dad a job to get son. If so we should have looked at higher ranked kids dads.
His overall record was poor due to having to play a bunch of guarantee games in the non conference. In conference he was always over 500.
He has a lifetime losing record as a head coach. He probably hoping to learn from Pope how to get that up to 63%
He has to have some connections. Hopefully it pays off
This isn't that. Mo Williams played 14 years in the NBA, made the All Star Team and won an NBA Championship. He is the catch not his son, this type of high profile NBA Career helps in the recruiting circles. Now let's see who he can land for us in the Portal. Could Jamal Crawford be next? I know some say that was only rumors but I believe it to be more than that and there is interest.

Other schools hire people to be assistant coaches to get top five players in the country. Pope does it for a guy that’s not in the top 100

Mo was actually a solid NBA player. If nothing else, he might help draw players that want to be around a guy who actually knows how to succeed at the next level.
This is a great hire. The younger generation will love having a NBA all-star and teammate of Lebron come sit in their living room and explain to them how they plan on being used at UK. Mason and his dad know that UK is looking at bringing in 3 point guards. Mason knows that he is the long term project and the other guards will be the primary and backup point guard.
That's exactly why I just asked the question about whether this should be considered an upgrade or downgrade. I legitimately don't know.
