Got to thinking with the West-East days coming to a close with the new school. What are your Top 10 teams if all time in that era. Mine would be these but certainly are debatable.
No. 1 - ‘75 WM team - lost 12-9 in 2A title game. Don’t know much about them. Was too young
No. 2 - ‘79 possibly best team ever. Lost in one of the best games I’ve ever seen as a kid 17-14 in Siler City to the best team ever at Jordan-Matthews. My family went over to see Coach D, who we are related to, after the game, and I heard a college coach say that there was enough talent in the field that night to field a small college team.
No. 3 - ‘78 West Montgomery loaded
No. 4 - ‘77 West Montgomery ditto
No. 5 - 2007 West Montgomery - lost to James Kenan in 1AA finals with a blown call possibly making the difference. One heck of a WM team.
No. 6 - ‘88 West Montgomery team that finished regular season unbeaten and lost to Lexington with Tyrone Horne suffering an early knee injury
No. 7 - 88 East Montgomery - D’s best team, absolutely loaded. Lost 35-28 to Heath Shuler can Swain in Biscoe. And Shuler had to return a kickoff and make an incredible pass before the half to help pull it out.
No. 8 - 87 East Montgomery - team was loaded and a year away, losing to Carl Pickens and Murphy
No. 9 - 2013 West Montgomery - Capel as QB State finalists
No. 10 - 2016 - West Montgomery - state finalists
No. 10 - 2016 - East Montgomery (hey the split though we know the Mountain side was better than the sandlappers)
