but I have to believe that if they delay it that long, they have to open to some sort of legal action. Perhaps one of the fleet of lawyers on this board can answer.

on Sidney. They think they can pressure them and finally they will tell all. I don't think that will happen. Floyd already took the fall for USC.
MSU is clean on this and that will be shown. Stalling and hoping to find something, is all I see them doing.

courts usually take a hands-off approach in questions regarding how organizations (like the NCAA) conduct their business. remember the MS high school playoff controversy last fall? the organizations have rules, and courts usually let their determinations on the rules stand. here, though, the sidneys probably could persuade a court that a decision, whether positive or negative for them, should be rendered within a reasonable time - which is different from arguing over application of a rule.

i don't think it's a coincidence that donald jackson keeps mentioning the "de facto suspension", which somewhat hints toward legal action if such a situation arises. jackson is also being sure to mention that "we're giving them more than enough info" so that the NCAA can't argue that it hasn't had time or the information to render a decision. the proper course, i would assume, would be to seek an injunction requiring the NCAA to reach some sort of decision. the sidneys would also probably claim some type of discrimination in keeping renardo from playing.

i hope it doesn't come to legal action, but i don't think we'll have another mario austin situation. i think we'll know before the season one way or the other.

and i think that's why jackson is saying what he's saying now, and letting the NCAA know that they won't tolerate a "de facto suspension." the NCAA, however, may not give a crap and may drag its feet however long they please. it's not like these players have a "right" to compete in intercollegiate athletics. and i think that's where the NCAA will hang its hat. the closer we get to the season, the more interesting (and probably discouraging) the situation will become.
