More realignment still in the works?

Here's a write up from a Kentucky site on some interesting comments recently from FSU's outgoing president:

"Outgoing Florida (State) President John Thrasher was interviewed by the Tallahassee Democrat and his comments about his current conference, the ACC, were less than committal. “My point to (FSU director of athletics) David Coburn and to (new ACC commissioner) Jim Phillips is I don’t want Florida State to be left behind. I consider us as part of the ACC, but I also know that we have a marquee name, Clemson has a marquee name. I think there might be people coming after us, I don’t know, but we’ve got to be prepared no matter what the options are.”


I think the “I consider us part of the ACC” portion was quite interesting. Would the SEC make another power move and raid the ACC taking away Florida State, Clemson, and maybe Miami? I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens eventually. It would probably be in the best interest of the ACC and the Big 10 to start moving on expanding or the SEC is going to gobble up whatever they want."

The problem with the SEC grabbing programs for purpose of expanding is they’ll eliminate competition. If the SEC gets to big they’ll eliminate interest in the test of the country. Take the NFL. Do Easterners watch Seahawks Against the Bronco? Nope. When the Giants and the Washington play are the ratings in Colorado or California high? Nope? College football is already regional and centered around big ticket games. If SEC expands too much everyone outside of the Southeast will get disinterested over time. Who cares about Texas against Auburn in PA.

It does seem to be a strange plan. The CFP ratings dropped substantially because fans grew tired of no inclusion for their program— but the greedy powers that be are still rushing to monopolize the whike thing for the few- that they created in the first place. Texas- big state but whT have they done? Clemson 11-12 years ago was no one special. USC- I remember Reggie Bush games sort of but otherwise?

Yet 90 % of schools are going to be shuttered because Kirk Herbstreit only thinks his former conference and the SEC mean anything?

Still trying to figure out how South Carolina, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Missouri, AtM, Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Mississippi State, and for a long time Florida— what makes these schools “ deserving”?

College football wont be a popular sport for long if this trend isnt reversed.

Except of course players don't go to school ONLY in the states they play high school ball in.

NFL and college football are two completely separate things.

Plus the records of the SEC schools is still NOT GOOD much of the time and still NOT BETTER than dozens of schools left out perhaps.

These Top 100 players aren’t leaving the area.
Might catch one or two but not too many

But Greggor is right. People are loyal to where they are from.
But at the end of the day these media companies have a product to sell and people watch. As of right now it is the SEC.
Regardless of where they are from. A lot of people are naturally bandwagon fans

Which is exactly where Miami and VT and every mediocre ACC team not named Clemson is.

If Clemson goes, the ACC is screwed. I heavily doubt Clemson will demand FSU being invited along.

Tough sledding for the WVUs and Pitts of the world. Not saying it can’t be done. Just unrealistic to think it can be done year in year out. That’s why I tip my hat to programs like Wisconsin that do more with less.

Have to get the best people to run the show for sure and can't hesitate to make a change when things are stagnant.

If recruiting ranking won games, Texas would have won a few more national title the past 20 years.
They have no coaching Or player development.

My evaluation when this all becomes set in cement is whether WVU will make more or less money than it does now because that's critical for the sports that aren't football or basketball, both self-supporting, with football supporting golf, tennis, etc.
