I have a different perspective from most of you here. I graduated from MSU before the vast majority of you were born. Yes, I'm an old geezer but I've endured more pathetic MSU sporting activities than any of you ever will.
I remember when we "upgraded" from Charlie Shira to Bob Tyler. And from Tyler to Emory Bellard. Hell, I remember in the early 70's when we beat Mississippi and it was almost declared a day of mourning by the governor. Back then all the governors and all the legislators were from Ole Miss. State ALWAYS sucked hind teat and poor USM didn't even get the leftovers.
That being said, for many of us from my generation, Jackie Sherill represents the only era of MSU football we can be proud of. Yes, Bob Tyler got us to the Sun Bowl in 1974. Bellard got us to 2 bowls in the 80's. But for the most part it was the Dark Ages. Like the Crxxm years going on for decades.
My point is, most of you can't rememberhow things were before the 1990's. The last 2 years of Jackie's term and the Crxxm years are the only tough times you know. The rest of us remember the REAL tough times and are so thankful for Jackie. He gave us a reason to hold our heads up when football season came. He MADE MSU football. He's earned the right to come back. Hiring him was the ONLY good thing LT ever did.
