That university just needs to be bulldozed
This makes me mad. I have friends and family that attended UofL for at least parts of their education, and this could hurt them. It's funny watching Louisville's stupidity, immorality, and ineptitude destroy their athletics program, but now we're on the verge of a lot of decent, ordinary students paying the price. Dammit, UofL, why do you have to suck so badly?
The biggest elephant in the room is the fact that UL ran a $21M 2015 fiscal year deficit and a $46M 2016 deficit.
Two things to take away. They are having to raid principal of their foundation annually just to stay afloat. Secondly, it's getting worse every year.
Now it should be clear why after Papa John tried to shine the light of day on UL's true financial problems, he was run out.

That school is ran by nothing but crooks and idiots.
The part that I like is that if they lose accreditation, they are then out of the NCAA. That would mean that they are out of the ACC. It also means that we do not have to play them in any sport, and can act like they do not exist, which if they are out of the NCAA, they might as well not exist. Me likey.
This stuff has become par for the course at UofL. It's not even surprising anymore.
SACS will do nothing other than let them make changes. They should close them down but won't. They were already on probation and violated that.
UK really should cancel all athletic competition with UL this year. They don't deserve to play UK in anything. This is a systemic and deep problem with the way UL is governed and managed, and until there are drastic changes UK as the state flagship institution should not give its imprimatur to anything related to UL.
Fiscal responsibility doesn't seem to be a major concern at Louisville. Maybe they can give Jurich another bonus.

SACS will never strip accreditation from a major university. It simply won't happen. They will continue to apply pressure until UL makes the moves SACS wants to see. That's it.
Was thinking the same. Other universities with a lot less clout have been in bad shape before and not lost accreditation. Any examples of a school being forced from the NCAA for losing their accreditation?

No, but honestly I've never seen an example of mismanagement and outright corruption at a major university that compares with UL. It's in a class by itself. If it was a for profit corporation its stock would be delisted from the NYSE. That does happen fairly often.

SACS came in and audited UNC after the AFAM scandal became public. They were satisfied that the problem was only with that department and it had been cleaned up. They are not really an enforcement organization like the NCAA.
UL's problems are so, so much worse and much broader. Running annual deficits is never a good thing and usually indicates deep problems either financial structure and management, and papering over those deficits by liquidating endowment funds is a huge red flag that indicates serious fiscal mismanagement and likely unethical conduct. Colleges and nonprofits that start down that road often end up defunct and closing. It is extremely rare behavior by a major university.
What SACS is indicating here is serious questions about UL's ability to continue to function as a going concern. If you have ever seen a corporate audit that contains a "going concern" warning, this would be its equivalent.
The quickest route to recovery is admitting you have a problem and addressing it . Since the cardinulls cannot do their own police work it is time for the Governor to "start a firin and re a hirin ".
They could call it the "SEX for SACS HoeDown".

Make no mistake: this stuff at the school and athletic department has been over forty years in the making and it's due to one reason: a little brother complex.
Let's not pretend cheating happened with Pitino. Crum was notorious and nearly got Uofl the death penalty and we know he learned from the greatest undercover cheat ever - John Woodin.
Uofl people should take a long hard look at not only their athletic department, but the their entire school. A writer friend, with no affiliation to this state, told me "Uofl brags about all these nice things they have, but this is a college that has maybe 1% of the state supporting it and only half its own city supporting it, yet they're getting all this nice stuff?! That's corruption my friend"
How anyone could go out in public displaying paraphernalia (jerseys, hats, tee shirts, car stickers, license plates. . . ) supporting that dung-filled cesspool is totally beyond comprehension!

One of the worst mistakes in the Commonwealth's history was to make UL a state university. Why oh why did they do that? It has proven to be a huge problem and financial disaster. I pity the Kentucky taxpayers
I live in Louisville and Monday I took my dog up to a nearby park to walk. A lady up there was wearing, no kidding, a Louisville shirt with the words "character"

Pool Louisville just got a little confused between "SACKS" and "SACS". They have been working real "hard" on their "SACKS" accreditation in Minardi hall for years.
