I think the appropriate response is "thank you."I don’t understand why these families who obviously care about our sports don’t give a big donation to NIL to get us a chance competitively. To me at least it’s obvious we are falling behind especially on the football field.
Not knowing how much NIL there is and not knowing who is contributing, they might actually be doing both. I think the athletic department is bragging about what they should be bragging about and keeping quiet what they should keep quiet.I don’t understand why these families who obviously care about our sports don’t give a big donation to NIL to get us a chance competitively. To me at least it’s obvious we are falling behind especially on the football field.
State Excellence Fund is NIL...I don’t understand why these families who obviously care about our sports don’t give a big donation to NIL to get us a chance competitively. To me at least it’s obvious we are falling behind especially on the football field.

Once rev share goes into effect, the State Excellence Fund will largely replace external NIL efforts. External NIL will be on top of what is estimated to be $20MM/year going to athletes directly from the athletics department at all major programs.I don’t understand why these families who obviously care about our sports don’t give a big donation to NIL to get us a chance competitively. To me at least it’s obvious we are falling behind especially on the football field.
This gift is to both the SEF and the IPFI know a big donor here in Madison that is disgusted with NIL and has pulled all of his family's funding. He doesn't want one penny going to paying athletes and they could not guarantee that funds given to the State Excellence Fund would not be used for revenue share/NIL.
I'm wondering if these families feel the same way so they are giving to a building instead.
You anon boys really need to get usernames so we can better keep up with who's bitching about what. When not promoting tariffs and Bitcoin, finding OTHER ways to spend other people's money is another SixPackSpeak favorite...
Well, this comment is completely apropos of the other discussions on here today.I don’t understand why these families who obviously care about our sports don’t give a big donation to NIL to get us a chance competitively. To me at least it’s obvious we are falling behind especially on the football field.
Is this great Bulldog fan giving his money to the university in other departments? I would hope so. That would be much better than just taking his money and going home (leaving MSU out to dry in the meantime) because he's mad at the NCAA.I know a big donor here in Madison that is disgusted with NIL and has pulled all of his family's funding. He doesn't want one penny going to paying athletes and they could not guarantee that funds given to the State Excellence Fund would not be used for revenue share/NIL.

Imagine being the Arkansas donor(s) who put up huge NIL money for that downpayment to get the Madden Ianaleava quarterback who took their money and then ran off to UCLA before ever showing up.I know a big donor here in Madison that is disgusted with NIL and has pulled all of his family's funding.
Again, this comment makes zero sense. We aren’t struggling with NIL funds. That’s where a lot of these donations are going.I don’t understand why these families who obviously care about our sports don’t give a big donation to NIL to get us a chance competitively. Ol Blue, is that you? When not promoting tariffs and Bitcoin, finding OTHER ways to spend other people's money is another SixPackSpeak favorite...
2.5 mil is no bb gun.I'm deeply grateful for the generosity of families and gifts like this. At the same time, I often wonder: what level of support is truly needed for us to be competitive? Sometimes, contributions like these—while appreciated—can feel like firing a BB gun at a tank.
That may not have been the best choice of words or analogy on my part. However, when you look at some of the NIL deals being made these days, it does raise the question: what would it realistically take for us to be competitive?2.5 mil is no bb gun.
We are doing pretty well on the donation front. There will always be a handful of schools that have deeper pockets, but from a monetary standpoint, we have enough to be competitive in the SEC.I'm deeply grateful for the generosity of families and gifts like this. Well the good news is that we will have a good idea of where we stand in week 2. ASU will be a top 15 team and Leavitt is a projected top 5 QB (I don’t see it).We are doing pretty well on the donation front. The general vibe and consensus (in regards to Selmon/Lebby) among the fanbase and donors that matter, is okay. Sixpack has largely become just a negative cesspool. Which is unfortunate, I think the purpose of this board is starting to miss the mark.
I agree. We should know pretty quickly if Lebby has improved.Well the good news is that we will have a good idea of where we stand in week 2. ASU will be a top 15 team and Leavitt is a projected top 5 QB (I don’t see it).
If the defensive front is half of what has been hyped so far at least we shouldn’t be giving up 300 yards on the ground to any single back.
If we could get a win over ASU and avoid an 0-8 in the SEC, maybe some of the constant negativity can be tamed. The sad part is the negative Nelly crowd has never been this vocal, not even during the Crooms error.
This is probably the truest thing said on here about this topic.they are on the inside and know how best to apply their donation
Can we also make this a scholarship for anyone who scores a 24 on the English section of the ACT
Definitely not reality.I agree. We should know pretty quickly if Lebby has improved.
I was in high school during the late Sherrill years/ creation of the board. Spent my college years watching terrible football under Croom. All that being said, I’ve read this board since the beginning and I understand its roots. But it’s become a pissing match of who can say the most sarcastically pessimistic comment. To the point where what’s said on here isn’t even rooted in reality anymore.
I’m certainly not saying this about the $2.5 million donation but rich people and poor people and all in between are guilty of doing this. This is probably the truest thing said on here about this topic.
Do people really think someone who is donating $2.5M to the school is just doing it blindly? That these wealthy, seemingly intelligent people didn't think to ask, "Where should this money go that will help the most?"
Yeah who knows what will happen this year. But to your point, everyone wants to believe the reason we had a tough season in 2024 is because Lebby sucks and Selmon does too (which is a possibility!). But completely ignoring the fact we had 3 different coaches in 3 years with very little talent.Definitely not reality.
even your post is guilty of it. The teams record can improve this year and it doesn’t mean Lebby changed or got better. We sucked talent wise last year.
if Lebby does the exact same things and our talent has improved we’ll be better.
hard to tell how good of a coach he was last year bc the talent was so bad.
We are recruiting exactly where we have been since Mullen got here. Our problem isn’t money. It’s coaching. We have already proven we can be competitive recruiting like we are now.Again, this comment makes zero sense. We aren’t struggling with NIL funds. That’s where a lot of these donations are going.
Again this is idiotic. We are recruiting exactly where we have been since Mullen got here. Our problem isn’t money. It’s coaching. We have already proven we can be competitive recruiting like we are now.

Additionally, we’ve been playing catch-up in the NIL/transfer portal era. We had an AD from 2016-2022 (a crucial period of college athletics) who did essentially nothing to lead efforts in NIL and tried his best to treat baseball as the #1 priority. This is not good for any school, especially one like Mississippi State, who needs to be ahead of the curve in these situations.Again this is idiotic.
Lebby is in year 2 and he came into a worse situation than Mullen. Croom had some talent here. We can go to the nfl draft and compare if you want. Not great talent but some.
lebby not only walked into less talent but he also walked into nil and infinite transfers and a coaching fruit basket turnover of epic proportions.
he may suck as a coach but we have no idea yet. I don’t care what you think you know.
Nothing is no one else donates but it has to start somewhere and they weren't the firstThat may not have been the best choice of words or analogy on my part. However, when you look at some of the NIL deals being made these days, it does raise the question: what would it realistically take for us to be competitive?
Maybe so, but thankfully in this particular case, I am 100% certain they asked where the money would be the most beneficial, and that's where the money went. This family wants to help MSU, not go on an ego trip.I’m certainly not saying this about the $2.5 million donation but rich people and poor people and all in between are guilty of doing this.
sometimes egos get in the way and they want what they want.
but it’s their money and they get to choose.
I don’t disagree with any of that, and if it came off like I was blaming Lebby for what he inherited last year that was not my intention. Now if you don’t change your attitude when speaking to me I’m going to have to meet you at the sonic.Again this is idiotic.
