Better than expected and good are two different things.

Being a little less terrible than expected does not mean we should feel like we are in a decent spot.

While I totally agree that some of the things we do are bewildering, a lot of our problems are due to absolutely zero SEC level talent in either line. Bear Bryant couldn’t win with our current line play.
What do you know about Beat Bryant?
Di you know that multiple sportscasters including the very best of that day said that “Bear Bryant could beat you with his and turn around the next week and beat his with yours!“ So yes, even Bear Bryant would have 7 wins right now with this bunch. Fact is so would Gus Malzhan! And several other former head coaches who are simply coordinators or consultants now.

Not really though because he coached Fordham with scholarships when the rest of the conference was walk-on only. Of course he won some games there.

Having said that, he had an 8-4 season here. We could keep Lebby for a decade and Lebby likely wouldn't ever do that. Even this year, where we had a lot of good luck with the schedule and had a real shot at 8-4, Lebby's coaching kept us from getting there.
I'll give that about Fordham, but He won at an FCS school. Y'all keep saying its all coaching and not the money....except when it doesn't suite your argument. You get what you pay for.

If you’re not watching the games, it’s easy to see how you could look at the record and scores of the games and think we are seeing a good bit of improvement.

If you’re watching the games, it’s impossible to feel like this program is in good hands with Lebby. He’s just flat out incompetent and anyone who says otherwise, either has their head buried in the sand or is not watching the games.

I felt the same way about arnett. He felt pretty overwhelmed too. But honestly I feel like arnett was better than Lebby. It’s pretty frustrating the choices we have made post leach.
I agree with this Arnett > Lebby! And it may not be close because of the relative IQ of each one.

The only FCS head coaches I've really advocated for are Brent Vigen (Montana State) and Tim Polasek (North Dakota State), neither of whom are in that Fordham scholarship situation (and have much higher winning percentages than Moorhead ever did at Fordham anyway).

I don't know, probably the fact that you jump into every thread to defend him, even after everyone else is ready to move on?
I'm giving you very valid reasons not to fire him this year. That is not the same thing as a supporter. As of now I'm exactly what I said, on the fence. What happens in the Egg Bowl, this year, won't change that either even if it is a complete debacle. It depends on performance next year as to which way I go.

Well, actually they weren't. We lost those games. The lines were man handled when it mattered. I*f we fire Lebby this year the replacement will almost certainly be AT BEST, more of the same. Our last three coaches who did not die will have been fired after two, one, and two years. NO coach with any real prospects would take a job at a place like that with our history. This aint rocket science.
You do not know that. first of all, there are 12 fired coaches looking for jobs. I guy that has the fire to prove he can still coach would most definitely take out job if options were limited. Also guys who are ready to move up and are confident and not scared of the big bad SEC would be interested. The key is would they hear from our admin what they need to hear to take the job? Anybody that comes in and says I need 3 years to fix things in the NIL era, you don’t want anyway.

It literally is the same thing. You "support" bringing him back next year.

And you don't know that one would take it either. I've heard this same crap all my life. The only hire like y'all want we have ever made was JWS, and possibly Leach. Both had reasons that few schools wanted them.

Yes, I do. I could be off the fence and on your side on everything else and I would still support that. Fire him now and we get a Rick Ray type hire, again.

Lebby is the Rick Ray hire.

Guys come on. Arnett is a very very low IQ individual who apparently has other issues also. Lebby is bad and I don't see him improving but I don't think we'll find him being caught driving through a Wendy's drive thru naked .

"I agree that Lebby is the football version of Rick Ray, but I think we should keep him for 2026 anyway!" is a wild thing to post onto a message board.

Actually I know quite a bit about Bear Bryant. I attended State vs Bama about 20 times while he was coach. I have been to his house so not that it matters but I expect that I knew way more about him than most here including you. Breath deep, life is too short to make yourself miserable over football. I understand, I’ve been there many, many times.

But with the Bear, we’d have hope that he could recruit better line talent going forward. Given how the last round of recruiting went followed by his cluelessness on the sidelines, I have no such hope in Lebby

How much NIL should we give Lebby next year? How much do we have throw around and how many of you would bet a load of cash on us winning 7 or 8 next year?

I've gone from being a die-hard State fan who made sure to arrange schedules around games to tuning in when I have time and not getting too emotionally involved because they're gonna lose more than they win and that's just the reality of State football right now. I stopped watching in the 3rd quarter last night and just kinda didn't care as much at halftime after seeing that out QB, someone not really known as a runner, ran 14 times. No let down today because the result is hardly surprising.
Very similar to me. Sadly

I'm not sure we are as much improved over last year as the other teams are just worse than expected. Even where we are improved in talent, the coaching is as bad or worse.

Lebby results so far are somehow worse than Rick Ray's.
And Zach Arnett’s.

And Joe Moorhead’s.

And Sylvester Croom’s.

And Rockey Felker’s.

And Polk II’s.

And Chris Lemonis’.

And Ben Howland’s.

And Nicki McCray-Pinson’s.

And Sharon Fanning’s.

I said it before and I’ll say it again….he’s the worst MSU coach in my 40+ years on this planet…..in ANY sport. It’s not even remotely an exaggeration or hyperbole. And there isn’t even a close 2nd place.
